After a warm and sunny #257 it was back to some chilly weather! The thing about this time of year is that although it actually wasn't that cold, we were just spoiled by the 70 degree temps of earlier that week. That and the breeze, which always makes it seem colder.
Unfortunately the wind was such that we couldn't deploy the MOAB, but on the other hand the flags look a lot nicer in a good breeze.
As per our usual routine, we started to gather at around 6:30, and we continue until the dinner bus comes back, which can be anytime from 9:15 - after 10:00. One thing that's interesting is that most of our folks arrive before 7:30, so that we have our full crowd there most of the evening.
It's a bit different with the Code Pinkos down the street. Leader Bruce arrives at 6:30ish, but it's usually only one or two people and him for most of the night. Only at 8:30 or even later do more show up. When they leave at 9:00 they may have a dozen folks, but most are there for only a few minutes. Very strange. Our theory, augmented I believe by a bit of insider information, is that it's a union shop thing and that some of their volunteers are paid, so that they need to be there at the end to "clock out."
Interestingly, what they call their "Walter Reed Vigil" is not listed as one of their current campaigns. It's still on their events calendar, so they do still sponsor it. But as a practical matter the leaders seem to have given up or moved on to other causes. They don't make an issue of it anymore on their website. And it's been years since we've seen any Code Pink leader come to Walter Reed.
The fact is that Code Pink is only interested in theater and as such Walter Reed has outlived it's usefulness to them. They cannot get any media mileage out of it any more so they've moved on. They never cared about the troops as anything more than pieces of propaganda.
Anyone with details please post it in comments or send me a FReepmail.

FReeper VictoryNY arrived to light us up with a series of cheers for the troops. She's always enthusiastic and raring to go. She leads the cheers for the troops and waves and all the cars. This in turn prompts more honks and waves from them.
It's light now in the DC area until about 8pm. Very nice for FReeping!

I wish I lived close to this, I’d be there every Friday night!!! I also wish that there were crowds of 50 - 100 people there every Friday night!
Thanks for sharing the great pictures! God Bless you all for keeping the Walter Reed vigil going all these years for our heroes! Continued prayers for all our military.
We hope to join you on a Friday night in September when hubby and I make it back up to DC.

Tom - you did good!
Let’s give Bufordp a nuggie this Friday for his subliminal reply!

Tom - Thanks for an almost prompt AAR. It was definitely a “climate change” Friday. I should talk though, Olney’s latest AAR combined 3 AARs. And I once did a Grand Slam AAR, 4 weeks worth.
Kburi - I saw that message also. Nothing subliminal about it. Typical BufordP “tom” foolery. Now let’s see if you can get last week’s AAR up before this Friday. The pressure is on. :-))

God Bless you all for being out there !!!
I think I was there that week. I think I should thank you for not taking a picture of the blanket wrapped “BAG LADY”!!
It is always great to meet new FReepers. Looking forward to your visit. So far the weather is cooperating with your visit.
We’ve had visiting FReepers from all over, even one from Alaska. He showed us a picture of himself shoveling 3 feet of snow off his roof.
