Obama swings and misses at Sox lore

Blame Rahm Emanuel for team’s No. 1 fan dropping the ball during interview

What's happening to President Barack Obama, America's No. 1 White Sox fan, is just absolutely terrible.

OK, sure, the poor guy committed a grievous baseball sin. But now he's taking a beating, the kind Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano would give his own catcher, or maybe his manager.

It almost reminds me of the time CBS' Katie Couric sweetly asked Sarah Palin what she liked to read. Palin drew a blank and reporters never let her live it down.

But I say, let's leave the poor president alone. After all, he's a White Sox fan, isn't he?

Obama's troubles started Monday after he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Washington Nationals home opener.

He threw lefty and missed the plate, which wasn't surprising. What was surprising is what happened after he joined announcer Rob Dibble in the booth for some happy talk.

Dibble commented on Obama's hat — a nicely faded black Sox cap — which the president proudly wore on the mound reminding all of us once again of the heroic team from Chicago that has actually won a World Series in the past 100 years.

Dibble asked the fateful question, one so easy that Hawk Harrelson would have called it a "can of corn."

Dibble: "Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?"

Obama: "You know … uh … I thought that … you know … the truth is, that a lot of the Cubs I liked too."

Ouch. The silence between the stammers was excruciating. America's No. 1 Sox fan couldn't name one Sox player.

Not former players like Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk or future Hall of Famer Frank Thomas or manager Ozzie Guillen. The least he could have...

Sammy Sooser!

Well at least GW could honestly name Sammy, 'cause Bush was the one who traded him from the Rangers to the White Sox!

If you hitched ride on Air Force 1 you would take Cortisone shots for a week and pop two Vicodin three hours beforehand just so you could throw a strike. LOL

You do after all have the power of the White House at your disposal. LOL

Yes—every time I hear or see anything he says, I get the feeling that he’s making it up as he goes. This guy needs a keeper just to get through each day, I think—and that probably started way before some people ever called him president STATE REP!

Obama short-arms his basketball shot just like he short-armed whatever he was trying to do with a baseball Monday. The dude doesn't get any sort of extension; it's like he has alligator arms.

Truth is, he, like most people, just isn't much of an athlete, and no amount of fawning by the media will change that fact.

(For the record, I'm a girl, and my dad would've either broken my shooting/throwing arm or denied paternity had he seen me shoot or throw like Obama, even when I was 7 years old. My dad takes his sports seriously.)

Your Dad sounds like my Dad! Drop a fly ball or miss a grounder, and his wrath was upon me. Being a girl was NO excuse. :)

My question is, when it's so painfully obvious that the man (?) has no athletic skill, why doesn't the media just slink away from the issue and stop pretending?

I know they don't care if they look like morons in their slobbering love affair with Obama, but this is beyond moronic to keep treating this wuss as an "athlete." It would be better if they just ignored him when he shows up in his baseball cap and mom jeans.

They might keep the small audience they still have. :)

LOL! How true.

But Bush knows baseball inside and out, every player, stats, family stories. He's a walking baseball encyclopedia, and the players knew it. (And he could pitch fast ball strikes!)

That's why the media completely ignored him. Couldn't risk anyone's seeing who he really was as they presented their phony template that he was a brain-dead, evil man.

What annoys me is that I don’t care if any of them play,or even like, sports.

In Kerry’s case he should have just said he didn’t follow baseball. Period.

As far as Obama and his basketball, well,I don’t follow basketball so wouldn’t know a good throw from a bad one.

There’s so damn much wrong in this country that it boggles my mind, and Obama heads the list of wrongs.

There's something weird to me about these Dem candidates' pretending to be interested in sports when they're not. Anyone who follows sports clearly knows that they're lying, and I would guess those are the voters they're trying to reach. And anyone who's not a sports fan doesn't care.

Your last line is on the money. Obama is #1 on the list of what's wrong with the country, and his lying about being a sports fan just makes it worse. Why does he have to lie about everything???

Because he’s a pathological liar. He truly believes he is telling the truth.

Frightening,huh?

When I was a sophomore in high school, my dad told me, in his shop in front of one of my basketball coaches, that I was so stationary on offense during the previous night's game, that I was lucky there were no pigeons in the gym. He's lucky I inherited his sense of humor.

If you discover why the media wants to promote Obama as some sort of Michael Jordan-Walter Payton-Harold Baines-Greg Maddux combination who has deigned to rule we lowly peasants, please let me know.

Maybe the media just knows nothing about what constitutes a good athlete. Or maybe the media just plain lies.

First part - not likely. Second part - without a shade of doubt.

And they don't seem to care who knows they're lying either. I mean........did they really expect people not to SEE that this guy is an uncoordinated doofus?

I know they think we're all stupid, but really!

“Do you ever get the feeling that Obama is making it all up as he goes along?”

Nah, he's simply the not-so-brilliant narcissist who just happens to be President of The Country with 57 States.
