Last year, the Huntington Common Council tried to pass a signage bill that caused a huge backlash from local business owners. It called for limited sign space, amount and placement. The proposal was defeated.
In March of this year, they tried again. For a second time, the proposal was defeated. The proposal from the Huntington Planning Commission contained 35 pages and was not business friendly. So back to the drawing board. Now they have planned a vote for this coming Tuesday.

There should be something considered regarding putting a limit on how many times an issue comes up and there also should be time limits i.e. if defeated a law can only come up for reconsideration after 1 year (just an example). But the leftists marxists want to keep shoving, pushing until they get their way; by hook or crook.

What is the endless drive to control and regulate? It is like a genetic disease.

Within leftist governments, and curiously within the elca, the limit is "until they get what they want.

The American Planning Association promotes all this stuff. Local planners generally are members of the organization, and get their ideas from the APA, and from other APA members.
Our area has had sign ordinances for a long time (maybe 30 years. As a University town, there are always a lot of people coming and going who are new to the area. The sign ordinance has ensured that all these visitors can't find businesses unless they happen to stumble upon them. Between the limited and very small signage that's allowed, and all the required plantings to screen the view of businesses from the road, well, there have been more than a few accidents caused by visitors looking around trying to find someplace they've gotten directions to. They also get lost and end up on the opposite end of town fairly often...

I find it a problem when a business can’t advertise the way it wants on it’s own property.

That’s one of my biggest gripes. You can’t “own” property in this country. The Government thinks it has the right to force you to it’s will. You can work all your life to buy land and build, but the Government can effectively confiscate it at will by taxing you out of existence. This has to change.

I don't know, but I call it "local communism".
Every time a body of people assemble in the capacity of legislatures, coucils, commissions, or any "governing body", the FIRST thing they jump into is how many things they can PROHIBIT. How many freedoms can they take away?
That is why the Constitution of the United States is such a masterpiece and why it is so revered by patriotic and free Americans...it's all about restricting the Government from what it cannot do (at least before obama).
Signage laws are stupid. These "governing bodies" should be doing everything in their power to promote and help legal businesses.
Businesses are clammoring for land and locations "just outside" the city limits of these elitist towns, making the suburbs grow faster than the cities...business and residential-wise.
I know of one place where you can only park your car(s) in your garage; you can't leave them on the driveway overnight, and, if you have guests and they park in the street out front, or ON YOUR GRASS...the city will issue a citation.
It's ridiculous.
If a big migration happens and people move away from this madness, it's not long before the same elitist show up, get elected, and start the same madness all over again. Plus, the "roaches" of society move there too because their "food supply" left them.
But, we've let ourselve become to effeminized we just let them keep doing it. I think a rite of passage in America has been for all the males to put their testicles in a lockbox at age 13 or so.

Depends on who you ask. Business owners think it is an infringement on their rights and the council wants to improve the view.
