NRCC co-chairman predicts Republicans will gain 56 seats

NEW ORLEANS – A top House Republican campaigner says his party is set to gain more seats than it won in the 1994 election.

Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) told the Ballot Box that he has pegged the GOP gains in this year’s election at 56 seats, which would be more than the 54 it won in its landslide election 16 years ago. It would also be more than enough to regain the majority the party lost in 2006 (which requires a 40-seat gain).

“I’ve got us at 56 seats right now,” said Price, who is chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee and also co-chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) candidate mentoring program. “And I think it’s only going to rise, because of the policies that this administration has put in place and the activities of the speaker.”

Price added that Republicans are now competitive in more than 100 districts – 104, to be exact.

Republicans like top NRCC recruiter Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) have said before that Republicans will be competitive in nearly 100 districts, but party officials are generally loath to put specific numbers on expected gains or losses.

Price qualified his prediction by saying “I’m the most optimistic guy in the room.”

This seems not optimistic to me, but realistic, given current trends. We'll see.

Let’s go for 100. There are at least that many incumbents that should be fired in this Worst Congress Ever.

Tom Price is a good man. Pete Sessions, on the other hand, is an idiot.

They can't slack off any. They need to keep fighting hard to make or better that number; with Rock of Gibraltar Solid Conservatives.

We can take nothing for granted; no matter how much the Dim party wants to destroy America, there will still be people who vote in favor of that, and those who are too stoopid to go to the polls, yet they do.

Doesn’t mean squat unless they have an established agenda for specific changes and enough votes in the Senate. Newt gave us the Contract for America. I sat glued to CSPAN watching the House vote in the changes on property rights protections. Then the legislation simply died in the Senate. With Obama in the White House, they will also need enough votes to over-ride a veto. The best they can probably do until 2012 is neuter the progressive’s agenda in Congress, although Obama will push the envelope on implementing his plans through the federal agencies.

I am thinking 60 in the House and 15 in the Senate myself.

You don’t have 56 seats. Wishful thinking.

You may get 40 but 56 is daydreaming. Hope you do and hope they are real R’s.

But Steele said a few months ago that we can’t win.

Steele's job is to raise money. He can't get money out of complacent people who think that 100 seats are in the bag. He has to scare them by telling them that 40 seats are not in the bag. Yet.

I just want to see Pelosi’s gavel taken away and burned while she fades back to obscurity.

There are not enough swing seats in the senate to get 60 but if “Teds” seat can be lost for Rats anything can.

I want to see Pelosi assigned a broom closet for an office, and be forced to ride coach and actually pay to ride planes.

The Democrats deserve to lose 150 seats. only the hard-core govt dependocrats should be even thinking of supporting them.

But we need to not just stop at Congress. In races for Statehouse, Governors, Mayors ... dogcatchers ...
Anyone with a “D” needs to be radioactive and swept from office.

This will take time, effort and money. Save America - Defeat All Democrats.

Yep. I hope they hold the line but doubt it. We have to put the Kibosh on all the crap they will try to rush through before we throw them out. This is blatant government vs. the people.
