Why work when I can get £42,000 in benefits a year AND drive a Mercedes?
The Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | April 13, 2010 | Paul Sims

Posted on 04/13/2010 2:08:53 AM PDT by Stoat

(edit)

At their semi on the Isle of Anglesey, the family have a 42in flatscreen television in the living room with Sky TV at £50 a month, a Wii games console, three Nintendo DS machines and a computer - not to mention four mobile phones.

With their income of more than £42,000 a year, they run an 11-seater minibus and the seven-seat automatic Mercedes.

But according to the Daveys they have nothing to be thankful for.

'It doesn't bother me that taxpayers are paying for me to have a large family,' added Mrs Davey.

'We couldn't afford to care for our children without benefits, but as long as they have everything they need, I don't think I'm selfish.

'Most of the parents at our kids' school are on benefits.'

She added: 'I don't feel bad about being subsidised by people who are working. I'm just working with the system that's there.

'If the government wants to give me money, I'm happy to take it. We get what we're entitled to. I don't put in anything because I don't pay taxes, but if I could work I would.'

One naturally wonders how many people here in the USA have these same sorts of attitudes, and how many MORE there will be if ZeroCare is allowed to poison our Nation.

Lots. My sister works at the Post Office and tells me of the welfare queens coming to get their checks. Some get over 60k.

Dear Mr and Mrs. Daveys, you can be sure that God will have something to say to you one day about your ‘entitlement’. Obviously coveting, stealing, and slothfulness are rampant within the welfare class these days.

These attitudes will become the norm in the U.S. as government programs bloat and more and more people lose their jobs. Heck, I’m on disability right now and would like to go back to work, but I increasingly keep thinking why bother? The taxes alone will make a return to work so not worth it. Might as well stay on the dole so to speak.

When my aunt lost her job she looked into financial assistance to help with her kids. The social worker told her to get a divorce so she could get additional money for herself. No joke.

Of course her Catholic upbringing would never allow her to do that, but just imagine the millions of vulnerable families that are destroyed by thus culture of government "support".

Well...this one has me looped

And many other Daily Mail readers as well.  You (and others) may wish to take a look at the reader comments area at the original article page.....it's full of absolutely furious posts:

MY God! We have pensioners who cannot even afford to eat properly, and fought for our country. Yet these are ungrateful for what they have and want more!

Typical New Labour voter.

If you cant afford to pay for the kids then use contraception.

I am sick and tired of working hard, very rarely seeing my daughter to pay for the likes of them!

What a disgrace this story is, and how very selfish these two people are, and still complaining that they are not happy with their lot WHAT. How they can leave their house this morning with their heads held high amazes me. Complaining they cant afford holidays, but live a life of luxeries, spends £2000 at xmas, what are these two on. They should be forced to stop them having any more children, i am sorry to say.

Given the astounding tax rates over there, this still sounds like a challenge.

This family seems to be correcting the decrease of native british stock. Many european and I understand the US also, help people with children to create incentives for having them. Sadly, the question is of course weather those children will see it as “normal” to start working. Which was of course the point of such subsidies, to create a work force.

I agree. I refuse to work just to pay taxes. Fortunately I've worked and sacrificed enough to have a few options. I have one foot out the door.
By the way, there is no way a family of 8 can be accused of sloth and coveting is what the government does with our tax money.

The only bad guys in this story, are the ones not mentioned: the bozos who voted for the crooks.

Here’s an example of what Socialism does to people. These people have been turned into ungrateful, lazy parasites. It’s immoral, at the deepest level.

Dennis Prager’s slogan is true: “The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen”.

People act surprised by their attitude. The leftists social engineers purposely worked to remove the stigma of welfare. That's proven as she illustrates that nearly all the parents in her school are on assistance. There is NO stigma.

What a disaster.

My wife works at a supermarket, and she sees this all the time. One woman called to another, "isn't this great!." Her buddy just had a baby and was using food stamps.

Brazilians (illegals?) come in expecting to be escorted around the store, because they're too lazy to use the gov't-issue booklets that explain what they can and can't buy with food stamps.

They also act surprised when they find out they can't buy Fruit Loops with Food Stamps. But they can buy shrimp and lobster, and they do.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see what these people would do if you gave them benefits for the first two children, then started to SUBTRACT benefits for each additional child???!!!

What state are you in? I’d be very surprised if the yearly welfare benefits were over 60k.

Florida and they are. They are single women with a whole bunch of kids. They get so much per kid and they have multiple fathers who are not living with them.

I once had a part time job enrolling welfare parasites in a health plan sponsored by the state. It had free dental care. They actually complained about the benefits not being enough. It was at the office where they came to get their free checks. They would pull up in new cars ang go in and get the checks. Across the street would be a truck vendor selling Lobster and Steaks. I was amazed. Some people have no pride.

The food stamp program should be eliminated and replaced with actual food like rice, potatoes, beans etc.
