American Consumers Return To Their Historical Pattern Of Going Nuts

Remember when it looked as though consumers might enter into some new age of thrift and austerity?
Well, it's true that there was in fact a brief, unprecedented dip, but the key word is: brief.
As you can see, the steady march higher continues apace.

Id sure like to know where the heck they're doing all the spending, cause it sure as hell aint in my store!
In other words, “Thank you sir, may I have another”?
I don’t believe any #’s released by the government anymore.
Without seeing the underlying data and knowing what smoothing or other massaging was utilized, I would say there appears to be an inflection point of recent, which means spending is leveling off or increasing at a slower rate than previously.
But this graph shows clearly one other positive aspect related to the FairTax:
and that is that personal consumption is robust in recessions, even deep ones. To see this, compare the chart above with a chart of personal income and you will see income fall off a cliff whereas consumption forges ahead....
....because people will always buy ‘a level of something’.
This point demonstrates that tax revenues based on retail consumption would see less volatility than tax revenue based on incomes, that governments would not be in such trouble as they are now. For example, California is stuck with a public sector workforce that grew during the boom years of high and increasing incomes and now they are nearly bankrupt.
I would wager that a dig into the data details of the chart above that it would reveal that consumers put off purchases of big ticket items.
“People that arent paying their mortgages.”
Yep....It’s amazing how much cash you free up when you don’t have that pesky mortgage, and you default on your credit cards.
It is called denial. Many refuse to accept the “new” America. They are under the illusion that if they spend what little they have (Biden claims you can SPEND ypur way out of debt), somehow America will return to the days before Dums took control.
Boy are they in for a surprise.
I will give the Zero admin and the Dummie congress credit. Putting off the HCR tidal wave for 5 years may well lull people into a sense of safety.
The only way to survive is to save money and get out of debt.
Bingo.....
Isn’t it surreal when you hear about all this government debt, though. Doesn’t it just make the hair stand up on the back of your neck. It’s like you’re in the second floor apartment relaxing, and you have this creeping sensation that the tenet on the ground floor might just have started an out of control grease fire in his kitchen.
With a wholesale manufacturing business and a service/healthcare business, I can tell you they aren’t spending it with us, either.
We sometimes think we are the only ones afraid of the market whose businesses are doing poorly.
Our own spending is very tightly controlled. We have cut everything we can except TV and that is on borrowed time. We will take our first get-away together that isn’t family next month to attend a graduation party about 4 hours away.
Too late to get back in the market, too. Yet, all I hear from most of the folks we come in contact with is Happy Days Are Here Again.
Same here. We are not buying anything other than necessities - and ammo.
Ammo is, or will be, a necessity.
That’s exactly what we are doing. We’ve got some bucks so we’ve been buying fruit trees, ammo, etc.
Well, I’d sure as hell like to see a bit of consumer spending. I’ve spent a pile of dollars moving my business from the friggin’ a$$hole state of communist Michigan to SC. I’m seeing so much red that I’m thinking I live on Mars.
Then FR is infested with crazy Ron Paul/John Galt gasping guppies, telling everyone not to spend. Screw you and the horse you rode in on. Basturds.
I’ve got bills to pay. You want to live in a cave and cook pinto beans, be my guest, muchochu, or however the hell you spell comrade in Mexican communist lingo.
Yeah, they're not paying their mortgages to pay down their credit cards, by the time they pay those off, they can then start paying the mortgages again (in theory) and the banks will be happy campers.
I actually know someone who is doing this. They owe about 6K on credit cards, and figured if they took three mortgage payments to put on the card, then they would pay one mortgage payment, and put another three mortgage payments on the card, they'd have the card paid off on 7 months, and still wouldn't have lost their house.
Realistically, the choices are 1. to make Obama seem semi-successful, get-relected in 2012, and completely ruin the country; 2. or for patriots to sacrifice just a teensy bit of their American Way. Too bad you can’t afford to help.
By the way, what is your business? You can FReepmail me with the details, if you don't want to publicly post.
What is the cheapest place to get ammo?
I’ve sacrificed plenty, and it’s not a teensy bit. I have a family to take of. All you Ron Paul a$$holes going Galt are helping to destroy small businesses. You fascist libertarians are too stupid to see it. Instead, you should be encouraging your members to buy from small businesses. It is, after all, the economic heart of America.
But I expect no less from you clueless libertarian liberals. You’re out there trying to destroy free enterprise, just like obuma.
Assess where you stand - liberty or slavery.
Some are stocking up, soon to come to a halt though...
I’m not sure; I buy from my local trusted dealer. My brothers are into reloading, and that saves a bundle (after the initial investment).
