US President Barack Obama will attend the funeral of his Polish counterpart Lech Kaczynski, killed in an air crash in western Russia on Saturday.

The presidents of Russia and France, Dmitry Medvedev and Nicolas Sarkozy, are also due to attend the funeral in the city of Krakow on Sunday.

Mr Kaczynski and his wife Maria will be buried in a crypt close to historic Polish leader Jozef Pilsudski.

I bet when 0bama attends Kaczynski's funeral, he'd be smugly smiling about his death.

I thought state funerals were in the vice president’s job description. Does Obama like winging around on Air Force One that much?

No doubt for the same reasons he likes that dopey limousine that gets 3 mpg - it makes him feel important.

I think this is one he should attend in person, and I’m glad he’s going.

Is there any truth to the rumor posted here the other day that Obama ordered President and Mrs. Bush to stay home? That the US would not provide SS protection if they went to the funeral. Somebody said that they heard that on TV.

I just think the Poles would think it more fitting that the top guy from the US came. I think Reagan, the two Bushes and Clinton would have gone themselves if they had been in office during an event like this.

It will be just Zer0’s style to try to grandstand the event; causing major insult to the Polish people.

If Obama has thrown any one country under the bus with his appeasement foreign policy it would be Poland. From his cave in on missile defense to his revamped nuclear doctrine he is sending the bad actors of the world a clear message that certain things are not worth fighting for. As one with many relatives who reside in Poland I can assure you that our president has very little respect within their borders. If I honestly thought he had the interests of the Polish people in mind I could approve of his attendance. To honor the dead while trashing the living is not my idea of a sound leader or a credible policy.

227,673 frequent flyer miles, so far. That does not include all the other (as many as 37 aircraft, plus all the limos, vans, and persons on per diems, etc., on one recent trip) assets used for his royal pleasure...
