In Atlas Shrugged Rand did two things mostly for dramatic purposes and to keep an already gargantuan novel from becoming even larger: she compressed the time necessary for the country to run out of resources, and she made the number of "producers" small enough for a critical number to be reached and convinced to "go Galt." The large majority of producers are, in fact, not supermen and -women at all, and their numbers are enormous in the semi-free society that America has become. Rand avoided the real-world question: could you still hold out if the government held a gun to your children's heads? Could you watch them starve? Because the real-world rulers aren't going down as easily as the ones in Atlas Shrugged - the superweapon that was conveniently blown up will, instead, be used, the entire weight of the State bent toward self-preservation. The Soviet Union lasted for seventy years on that basis.
Heinlein stated that the villain in a story never considers himself a bad guy, and I think he was mistaken. There are villains who know perfectly well they're bad guys and revel in it. Hate will do that. Hate codified as political doctrine will do that. And that's what we're facing.
It’s at the top of my list, along with “Starship Troopers”. Both my copies are well worn from repeated reading!
I would like to agree but Obama was elected through racial bullying via Reverend Wright, Father Pfleger and probably Bill Ayers. These Marxists have spend decades culling racial animosity, particularly towards whites.
I don't want to be right, here, but what happens when American society collapses?
Who exactly will get blamed? I think I know. I just don't know what happens after.
Please ditch your skin-color generalities, Red. The rest of you stuff sticks, but color of skin does not individually make us collectivist, or suburban, or capitalist.
Yeah, I have to say where I live some of the worst sucking off the public teat is being done in what you would call “white trash” neighborhoods.
1. “Producers versus Takers”
2. “Producers versus Thieves”
Your choice.
I don't think there is a need to "tie up" US forces. Obama conducts himself as a petty bully and a sissy, not someone who would seek a fight. So long as real Americans leave the union peaceably, I doubt that the communist in our White House would even attempt to use our military to stop us. In a move of that magnitude, it's imprudent not to consider all contingencies, but I expect the actual path to be non-violent. BTW, I think the Free States should accept a share of the national debt on their way out, based on their per capita share of the national debt, adjusted as appropriate for the value of other abandoned or assumed assets.
The book is far, far more intelligent.
Hopefully, they’ll first weaken themselves in the urban cores, fighting each other over the remaining supplies there,
before they venture out into the exurbs where people will be waiting, heavily armed and organized.
The Left will INSIST that the government punish the rebels and return them under the collectivist thumb. I don’t know if ‘bammy is of this mindset as well,
but that’s the mindset of your average DUmmie, KOSsack, etc.
“Love Heinlein.”
Go say it on the mountain. He was brilliant. Unfortunately, many on this forum don’t like him because of his stridently anti-religious feelings/writings.
Can’t wait to intoduce his writings to my sons. They’re only 3 and 5 so we have a ways to go...
The coming conflict, like the War of 1861, and the War of 1776, and Texas’ independence from Mexico,
will be the next war for independence conducted on this continent.
It won’t be a fight to control the central government, it will be a fight to free ourselves from it.
Seems the admin mod didn’t like me saying there was a coming civil war.
Well, I certainly don’t agree with his anti-religious views. But his views about government are spot-on, and not mutually exclusive with religion, from what I’ve read of him.
Didn’t look that inflammatory to me.
You were predicting, not advocating.
ca·pri·cious (k -pr sh s, -pr sh s). adj. Characterized by or subject to whim; impulsive and unpredictable.
We are a Constitutional Republic. Only if we allow ourselves the ignorance of devolving into a democracy will we end our exitence as a free people.
I have talked about a tipping point - that point beyond which there is no return - and what is the indiviual’s own tipping point. For most of us, we are either past or near the tipping point and have planned accordingly. Many more have become aware of it and are now starting to act.
CW2 will come and come quickly. Keep your powder dry.
Deo vindice
IMO, this “civil war” will be in fighting because of (and not limited to):
race
religion
liberal beliefs
conservative beliefs
And not necessarily in that order.
