From the Iron Rail website: “In 2009, we were invited to be the official bookseller for the Family Violence Prevention Fund’s 5th annual National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence. “

http://www.ironrail.org/about.php

From the National Conference on Health and Domestic Violence website: The Conference is primarily funded by the Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services.

The Iron Rail is organized in a way that puts theory into practice. We believe in a world without domination and oppression and in working to undermine authoritarian structures of power. As an anarchist collective, the Iron Rail has no bosses or managers. Group decisions are made collectively in weekly meetings, and members are encouraged to be creative in initiating individual projects. The bookstore is operated by volunteers who believe in the importance of establishing alternatives to capitalism, while creating new public spaces and supporting community projects.

Okay ... just in time for your Tea-Party Counter Demo. Here is a collection of media (poster, flyers, quartersheets/bookmarks) playing off the Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party Theme.

Iron Rail Collective Newsletter appears in this publication here:

Have you heard about the SRLC Welcoming Committee? We are a coalition of New Orleans individuals and groups (including the Committee to Save Charity Hospital) coming together to welcome the Southern Republican Leadership Committee to New Orleans by letting them and the world know what we think of Republican governor Bobby Jindal's ruthless assaults on Louisiana healthcare and education.

The SRLC Welcoming Committee is a broad coalition of local educators, healthcare workers, students and other Louisianians, as well as members of the Committee to Reopen Charity Hospital, Save UNO, the Iron Rail Collective, Pax Christi, and many others.

We hope this page serves as a valuable resource. The United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) was established by a group of community leaders and local Priests in 1984. Modeled on the Saul Alinsky style of community organizing, we sought to build grass-roots leadership within Chicago's Hispanic neighborhoods to organize for power and address local issues such as prevalent street violence, the Hispanic dropout rate and overcrowding in schools.

Allee Bautsch suffered a fracture in five places in her leg below her knee. It was surgically repaired with a rod and screws.

So domestic violence is bad, but public violence is okay? Got it.

I need to do a correction here - “Save UNO” is not the same as UNO.

Glad you gave this it’s own thread FG.

PING!!

It may be time to raise hell with Congress again. This group should have every bit of federal funding stripped!

We need someone to do an expose on this group.

And not just Glenn Beck who has already put himself in grave danger.

We need names. Don’t let them hide behind association initials or “the government.” Individual people make these decisions, and individual people need to pay. She may have one hell of a civil suit even if the cops won’t look into it. And again, if the cops are stonewalling, we need to know WHO, not just NOPD.

Ditto that! Should the attackers be found and be connected to SEIU or ACORN this could be dynamite.

I wish we had real anarchy for a couple of weeks, so the anarchists could be dealt with in certain ways they richly deserve and would have no standing to protest.

Great find.

Bringing the Chicago Way to NOLA.

Someone should indeed make a copy of this website before they scrub it.

“Overall, Jindal’s $24.2 billion budget proposal calls for eliminating nearly 3,000 state jobs in the 2010-11 fiscal year that begins July 1.”

***

” In Baton Rouge, an estimated 500 civil servants who now work at Earl K. Long doing everything from nursing to administration will be displaced when that facility closes. “

***

“Similarly, the civil servants who make up a significant chunk of the 2,300-person workforce at the Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans will no longer be state employees…”

***

“…the administration is proposing what officials say are the biggest changes to the state’s mental-health system in generations. The Department of Health and Hospitals is planning to discharge 118 people from state-run psychiatric hospitals… while another 138 institutional beds would be transferred to a private operator…”

***

“Rep. Tom McVea, R-St. Francisville, said the downsizing at East Louisiana State Hospital — a state-run psychiatric hospital in his district — will have lasting effects on his rural community as up to 300 state jobs are lost.”
