A 59-year-old San Francisco man is not expected to survive injuries suffered Friday afternoon when he was punched in the face by a man who had been part of an earlier assault on the victim's son, police said. Authorities said the victim, Tiansheng Yu, was on life support at a hospital Saturday.
Yu was critically injured about 3:04 p.m. in the 1800 block of Telegraph Avenue just a few feet from the entrance to the Fox Theater. Police said that moments earlier, Yu and his 27-year-old son, whose name was not released, had parked their car in the 1700 block of Broadway, planning to visit a coin store.
Sgt. Mike Gantt said Saturday that as the son was walking to the store, two men confronted him — one of them punching him in the face without warning. Sgt. Gus Galindo said the attacker "did not say a word or make any threats. He just cold-cocked him."
The two men took off, and the son, his face badly bruised and swollen, told his father what had happened. Police said Yu and his son began looking for the men and found them at 18th Street and Telegraph. They confronted the suspects, and one of them punched Yu in the face, causing him to fall and strike his head on the pavement, rendering him unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

Suspects: Police said one of the suspects is black, about 17 or 18 years old, about 5-foot-7 and between 120 and 130 pounds with a medium dark complexion and short hair. He was wearing a black, waist-length Raiders jacket with a Raiders emblem on the left breast and white or silver stripes on the collar and sleeves. He also wore baggy bluejeans with a light green design on the right rear pants pocket. The other suspect is black, between 17 and 20, about 5-10 and between 150 and 160 pounds with short hair and a medium to dark complexion. He was wearing a maroon shirt, dark jacket with a red back, dark pants with a white rear pants pocket and black shoes.

IOW, 90% of all male residents of Oakland are suspects.

There’s been several attacks recently of blacks attacking Chinese immigrants. In San Francisco, reectly, 2 women were beaten by blacks at a Muni platform. Imagine the outcry regarding hate crimes if it were whites or Asians targeting blacks instead of the other way around. It’s a double standard.
I mean this is just really becoming an epidemic.....black thugs in groups walking up to people (whites and asians) and sucker punching them....kicking them in the head, etc. It saddens me to watch this country descend into a third world hell and nobody seems to give a sh##.
Sounds a lot like the Zebra killings (Nation of Islam or Fruit of Islam, all black perps, all white victims, except this time Asians).

I think Asians are covered by the Federal hate crime law. I’d have to ask Eric Holder for a definitive answer, though.

From my own personal observations in the NY/NJ area over the course of my life, a plurality of racial attacks/harassment have been by ghetto to lower-middle-class blacks against seemingly everyone else. It was even worse from the 1960s-1980s. Flame away!
You’re only too correct. I witnessed those same people attacking their fellow Blacks who happen to be interested in working or studying their way to a possible better life. Unfortunately, as someone of Asian descent, I was also the scums’ target.

The best thing that could happen to Oakland would be a revival of the tongs and triads, with brutal reprisals for this kind of thuggery.
I am all for accurate descriptions of perpetrators. It's beyond ridiculous when they describe someone in great detail as "6 foot 2, 190 lbs, dark eyes, dark hair, new white Air Jordans, long Raiders jacket, saggy pants, gold necklace", and then leave off a racial descriptor.
However, I am NOT in favor of racially inflammatory labels. That is counterproductive and unfair to decent, law-abiding members of the same minority groups. It only helps those who think we should make excuses for criminal thugs because of their race.

Every time I see a story like this I think of the police on the lookout for Number One males.
On the scanner here all we can hear after an assault or shooting is the cops on the lookout for Number one males.

I have seen this, also, in NYC. A black bus driver harassing a black Dominican woman. A black subway cop harassing a black or PR vagrant. It happens every day in NY.
If a white bus driver or a white subway cop did this, they’d be toast ... with youtube video to prove it.
I agree racism just doesn't have a place in this world - it makes us all look ignorant. I agree with honesty, if one race is responsible for a disproportionate share of crime it needs to be called out and dealt with - preferably by leaders of that race. But racial epitaphs are counter productive, not fair to law abiding folks, and ignorant. I can assure you even if the press hides the race of a perp, law enforcement does not. If you listen to a scanner in San Francisco or Oakland you will hear the acronym YBM constantly - Young Black Male, or BMA for Black Male Adult.

A teenage girl was arrested early Sunday in the fatal shooting of an Oakland man celebrating his 18th birthday at a party in the San Antonio neighborhood, police said.
Davante Riley, 18, was at a party in an apartment at 2257 East 20th St. when a fight erupted just after midnight and he was shot, police and neighbors said.
Paramedics transported Riley to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police arrested the girl at the party.
An Oakland homicide detective investigating the incident said it was neither gang-related nor accidental, but declined to offer further details.

Very sad. Self-defense classes and practices are a very good idea. My rule while living in Berkeley was: if you see a group of black guys standing near the sidewalk, then walk the other way. When my friend forgot the rule and then continued walking, he then got punched, then transported to the emergency room, and then the nurse said, “Gosh, not another victim from the same street corner!” It was like near Church and 21st in SF near the high school at 9pm.

Some folks get tired of waiting for their monetary reparations and decide to collect them physically.
A clear signal is being sent from Washington which says, in essence, “it’s open season on whites” (as well as asians etc.) No surprise that the signal is heard loud and clear. Ever since Mugabe got elected - it’s Rhodesia all over again. Big surprise, huh?

Yes, I realize that, and good for this newspaper. However it is still true that some papers do not do this. You are left to guess the race of the perpetrator like Russians trying to read between the lines of Pravda to figure out which politicians are in and out of favor.
I’m not asking for them to dwell on race with every story about a crime, but when wanted criminals are on the loose, it is madness to withhold a complete description out of a misguided, paternalistic sense of political correctness.

That picture makes me sad. I can tell you the story without any further information: Asian immigrants come to the US with fifty dollars to their name. They work hard, obey the law, scrimp and save, pay taxes, build a small business, and put their son through college where he gets a degree in engineering, business, or some other useful field of study. Now the old man can cut back a little and enjoy the comfortable life they earned by the sweat of their brows. Maybe bring the boy into the family business, or sell it and retire. But walking past the wrong gang of thugs one day— thugs handed American citizenship and all its opportunities as their birthright— the thugs lash out for no reason other than sheer hatefulness, and the family’s American dream is over.
Even Chris Rock made the distinction between black people and the N-word.
Google “race wars of 1919” if you want to see what can happen. We are being set up for another round in the never ending war against this once free Nation. Martial Law is the intended purpose for all this nonsense.

The problem is that most normal people do not expect this kind of attack. As your post says, we should train for this type of incident.
A hand-held taser while walking through these neighborhoods might be a good idea.
