Hate: Antigovernment extremists are on the rise—and on the march.(Barf)
Newsweek ^ | April 19, 2010 | Evan Thomas and Eve Conant

Stewart Rhodes does not seem like an extremist. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and a former U.S. Army paratrooper and congressional staffer. He is not at all secretive. In February he was sitting at a table at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at a fancy downtown hotel in Washington, handing out fliers and selling T shirts for his organization, the Oath Keepers. Rhodes says he has 6,000 dues-paying members, active and retired police and military, who promise never to take orders to disarm U.S. citizens or herd them into concentration camps. Rhodes told a NEWSWEEK reporter, "We're not a militia." Oath Keepers do not run around the woods on the weekend shooting weapons or threatening the violent overthrow of the government. Their oath is to uphold the Constitution and defend the American people from dictatorship.

Oath Keepers are "a particularly worrisome example of the 'patriot' revival," according to Mark Potok of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate speech and extremist organizations. "Patriot" groups—described by the SPLC as outfits "that see the federal government as part of a plot to impose 'one-world government' on liberty-loving Americans"—are "roaring back" after years out of the limelight, according to Potok. Notorious in the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the patriot groups seemed to fade away under the shadow of 9/11, but hard times and the nation's first African-American president seem to have brought about a revival—from 149 groups in 2008 to 512 (127 of them militias) in 2009, according to the SPLC.

It is easy to exaggerate the numbers of...

Oh, wait, it’s a name for white people. Never mind. Only white people can be racist. Some liberal scientists proved it or somethin’.

Start it yourself. Get a free web site and put a link to it here on FR. List the web site in a letter to NEW GUN WEEK, and to other gun magazines.

And what gives the gov’t the right to tell us who to hate?

I agree with you. "Hate" is defined as intense animosity or dislike. "To hate" is defined as to feel hostility or animosity toward; to detest.

The Left would like to tell us -- indeed legislate -- that we cannot detest them or their policies. They, of course, would be exempt from such dictates. To which I say, "screw them."

Nice snag Joe. Evan Thomas is deefinitely pinko (as in red).

From the article-first lineStewart Rhodes does not seem like an extremist...

I love the way it starts out. He does not seem like an extremist! Might as well have added, "Experts wonder if he has stopped beating his wife yet."

The finest point on this article is the title, IMO. Newsweek knows that many readers scan titles and do not necessarily read an article. Unvarnished hit piece.

If I recall correctly, Evan Thomas’s grandfather helped found the ACLU.

From Discover the Networks:
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=1873

Thomas was born in April 1951 in Huntington, New York and grew up in Cold Spring Harbor, New York. His father, Evan Thomas II, was an executive with the book publishing house Scribner’s. His grandfather was Norman Thomas (1884-1968), disciple and successor to Eugene V. Debs, founder of America’s Socialist Party. Norman Thomas was the Socialist Party candidate in six presidential elections from 1928 through 1948.

Norman Thomas also ran for the Presidency six times -- on the Socialist Party ticket.

As we speak CNN pouring it on with Anderson Cooper. He has an individual on named John Avlon. I believe he is of what is described as "The Daily Beast". Footage was shown of "radicals". Signs that protested government etc. The words this man used, impugned current and attributed hate and violence with these protesters. This going hand in hand with Murrah Building explosion .

It is worth while to note that McVeigh attended about three militia meetings. They asked him to leave- he was too radical and unstable for their liking.

I am now aware of a concentrated campaign by much of the MSM to poison public opinion. In one way the power harnessed, could be the same power that took Barack Obama to the White House as President.

There is something rotten in the State of Denmark. (Shakespeare's Hamlet).

That is a threat to the democrat plans...or they wouldn't be squealing like pigs.

The media is always on the offensive. They all report exactly the same thing the same way, with the same spin, assumptions, and buzzwords. That creates reality for the highly partisan, the stupid, the lazy, and the parasite. Trying to counter their message is next to impossible. Their collective power is immense, even though we all know they are craven liars.

Nice snag PL. I fear that MSM will run the Tea-Party-equals-violence theme until the mushy middle and democrat voters are full propagandized.

Lol..

While there are some who are busy running away and or slobbering all over themselves trying to convince anyone who will listen that they are no threat to the marxists. Ill just say that the author got it a little wrong...

We are not a threat to the “government” we are a threat to socialists and marxists. The government is not the exclusive domain of these M’er F’ers. They can be found in the media, unions, K-12, academia and bullsh-t political PR groups like the SPLC.

So F U. Give us a little more credit for knowing the enemy and where they live and breed. We are coming for ALL of you not just the F’ers that infest the government.

We ARE a threat...

Those who cling to the idea that this republic can be saved (as is, with no changes) will get their chance this fall and possibly in 2012, but since nothing less than the complete and total defeat of socialism is going to be tolerated... I can guarantee you that, one way or another, we WILL remove the influence of socialism and socialists from our lives and its going to require some serious changes.

Threaten us all you want, it only hardens our resolve. We are NOT playing and this is not a joke.
