Sometimes you have a headline that makes the rest of the story superfluous, but here's the background. Actor Lance Baxter, otherwise known as "D.C. Douglas," currently known as the man who informs you how much GEICO can save you on car insurance, left a message last month with FreedomWorks in which he asked the group how many "mentally retarded" people it had on staff and what it would do when a tea partyer "killed someone." On April 14, FreedomWorks put his voicemail online.
Today, Douglas reports he's been dropped from GEICO's campaign. His dramatic news release is here; he claims to have been motivated by "the recent gay and racial slurs slung by Tea Party members at Congressman Barney Frank and Representative John Lewis during the Health Care Reform Weekend," and says he's "open to any attorneys taking on this case pro bono."

I like the Flo character too, and have some friends who work for Progressive (their HQ is in an eastern suburb of Cleveland, OH), but would personally not buy their insurance since some portion of the premiums will find its way inevitably into the coffers of the DNC (and worse).
On the other hand I'm very glad to see Geico canned their asshat voice over guy.
She’s a dyed-in-the-wool Obamaphile. Her name is Stephanie Courtney. She used to have her own website that was just loaded with Obamalove. I don’t think it’s online anymore. I used to think her “Flo” was okay for a cute geek girl, but the Obamaphilia kinda ruined it for me. But I guess it makes her a good fit for Peter Lewis and Progressive.

Did the voice guy identify himself as the Geico voice guy? (”This is DC Douglas, the Geico voice...” How else would anyone know who he is on a voice message?) If so, he is establishing his credentials on his employer’s name.
The name “Geico” means a lot, and Geico has spent a lot of advertising money to gain name recognition. Geico wants the name Geico to mean inexpensive insurance, not nutjob political ideology. Geico was completely in the right to fire this guy. And DC Douglas has no right to blame anyone else.
That’s one reason why I dropped them. I don’t know if they are any better, but I like the name of my current insurance company better (Liberty).

Hard to believe that one of the commercials shows Flo allwoing the customer to take the price gun and “Name your own price”. Sounds very free-market, instead of prescribing what you need coverage for and demanding that you like it. (Like Obamacare will).

I’ll keep my Geico which I switched to recently from Allstate due to cost. The asshat that they had the balls to fire would probably get a bonus from Progressive.
