George W Bush To Admit 'Flaws and Mistakes' In Memoir George W Bush will admit his "flaws and mistakes" in a forthcoming memoir that will focus on 14 decisions made during his eight years in the White House.

According to Crown Publishing, Decision Points, will offer "gripping, never-before-heard detail" about key events such as the disputed 2000 election, the September 11 attacks and the launch of the war on Iraq. Aided by a former White House speech-writer Chris Michel, Mr Bush also writes about his decisions on the financial crisis, Hurricane Katrina, Afghanistan and Iran, as well as discussing his battle with alcohol, his discovery of faith and family relationships.
A statement from Crown insisted that Mr Bush "writes honestly and directly about his flaws and mistakes, as well as his historic achievements". Since leaving the White House in January 2009, the former president has dedicated most of his time to the book, which will be released in the autumn. The cover features a photo of then-President Bush alone with his thoughts, standing in the Rose Garden colonnade of the White House, wearing a dark suit and holding a briefing book.
During his presidency, Mr Bush was known for his unapologetic approach, especially regarding the Iraq War, and for taking pride in his decisiveness. The book will attempt to justify decisions that may not have been popular at the time but which the former president and his aides have always believed would be vindicated in the longer term. He left office amid a collapsing economy and the lowest approval ratings any president has ever received since polling began.

9/11 saved his presidency, at least for the first term. Before that he was wandering aimlessly, letting Swimmer Kennedy write his legislation for him and generally acting like he'd never been to Washington before. After, he was the leader we all rallied around.
Bush's second term was up to him, and he blew it. Period.
Right, the New Tone crap was nothing next to legitimizing the idea of destroying capitalism to save capitalism.
Jorge will say his mistakes were that he wasn’t LIBERAL enough and the left was right all along. Just shut up and retire, Jorge.
I get amused by all the people trashing Bush now. Bush had flaws, but he stood by his believe in tax cuts, and strong defense, and I think two very good Supreme Court Picks that were approved (not Meirs). Those are what I want most out of a President. I would actually tell you the Republicans in Congress were as big of detriment to Bush as anyone. They caved to Democrats and the media on the Iraq lies that Bush misled instead of pointing out correctly that intelligence since the 90’s pointed to WMD and pointing out the evidence that Hussien was still striving for those capabilities.
His last 2 years was screwed by the lame duck status and the Dem’s in control not much he could do. His biggest flaw was TARP, which I didn’t agree on. He tried to challenge the flaws with Fannie and Freddie but didn’t get enough support on that (again fickle Republicans in Congress wouldn’t help him).
Quite frankly too many people posting here are revisionist Republicans. Is it Bush’s fault that we came up with a crop of dud’s running for President. You guys all blaming Bush need to help me see who on the Republican side looks more conservative, in the entire scope of things. None of the current crop of candidates are looking that strong. Palin can but not sure she will try to run for President and quite frankly, as Obama is proving, you need to be concerned with her capability to run a country. I love her attitude but everyone is seeing first hand what happens with a President that doesn’t have the experience to run a nation.
His worst mistake was being a big government Republican like his poppa. Compassionate conservatism, my a@@.
Of course, I voted for the Bushes 4 times for POTUS as the lesser of two evils. Dukakis, Clinton, Gore and Kerry - how can you not hold your nose and vote for a Bush?
bush dont need to do it personally, but he certainly should have hired a much larger media team to rebutt every single lies in the media. Do what Rush does all the time
he betrayed us with the support of TARP. We got to have socialism to save capitalsim. cough cough cough
if he did such a wonderful job, then we wouldn’t have obama/pelosi. The fact that we got them IS his fault. Alot of ppl were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and giving him a pass on some socialism, but when he supported tarp, that betrayal was the last straw
As for Palin. We know how well she would govern by evident of what she did in Alaska. She has a record to run on and they’re good ones
Palin worked from home whenever she can, instead of at teh govenor’s mansion. The left tried to use that against her. How could she get paid while working at home? Well because she saved the taxpayers alot of money by not working at the mansion. The left rather she worked at the mansion, costing taxpayers tonnes of money than give pay her a little extra for her to work at home. Theres are alot of other evidence of Palin being frugal with taxpayers money e.g firing the chef, sellign the govenor’s jet, paying with her own money for a tanning bed for work
And the MSM would have hired more people and gotten richer off ratings..the media LOVES stuff like that.
Rush doesn't have to fight a war on terror and execute the law of the land. The media is Rush's business...one in which he earns a lot of money. That's not the job of the Pres. And in sticking to his guns, Bush made the liberal media POORER.
i dont think so, the media gotten poorer despite what bush never did. The media killed themself with their daily lies. I don’t give bush that credit
Reagan ended the Fairness Doctrine of the FCC in 87. This cleared the way for the resurgance of talk radio and the new media.
No one is experienced enough to run the United States. You have to elect someone who makes good decisions.
Bush’s “softer tone” only invited the Dems to attack more. He was HORRIBLE at using the bully pulpit.
NCLB? Rank and file teachers despise that with a passion. I cannot emphasis how much they hate NCLB. Thank George Bush and Ted Kennedy.
TARP almost sank this country, and still might.
Bush is the one who brought up the immigration proposals. THat was the last straw for me.
I'm proud to say I voted for him twice.
I second what you said. Bush was a disgrace when it came to defending America from illegal immigration. He had no intention of enforcing the law because it conflicted with his “compassion”. Obama is continuing Bush’s law-scorning refusal to secure the border and deport illegals.
Why was he asking for it in the first place? Why wasn’t he enforcing the law like his oath of office required him to do?
His last 2 years was screwed by the lame duck status and the Dems in control not much he could do. His biggest flaw was TARP, which I didnt agree on. He tried to challenge the flaws with Fannie and Freddie but didnt get enough support on that (again fickle Republicans in Congress wouldnt help him).
worth repeating.
They love being "taken on". It bugged them A LOT them when Bush rose above and didn't let them bother him and didn't lower himself to their back-and-forth. I love that the media were bugged.
as the result, media lies were allowed to filter out into society and all the lies stuck onto bush, which resulted in the lost in election
Had he been distracted we likely would have been attacked again and been in much worse shape than now under Obama.
People forget how dire the situation was; the safety of the US was nowhere near a foregone conclusion. The only reason we are safe today is because Bush got his priorities right and because of this many more people are already wishing he was back only a little over a year into Zero's presidency.
Bush had his sights on the long view. His legacy will be a good one.
