Risk Grows That Israel Will Go Alone To Take Out Iranian Nukes
Washington Examiner ^ | April 27, 2010 | By Sara A. Carter

The growing rift between the Obama administration and Israel, coupled with the administration's failure to rein in Tehran's nuclear program, has increased the chances that the Israelis will eventually launch an attack on Iran, experts said.

"U.S.-Israeli relations are at their lowest point since ... the early '80s," said Ilan Berman, vice president of the American Foreign Policy Council. "It has a lot to do with the fact that Israel thinks this administration is not serious about preventing a nuclear Iran. What is Israel going to do? I'm not certain one way or another. But from the rhetoric, there will come a determining point."

Berman said Israel "could wait and see if sanctions would work, [but] if Israel feels threatened it would strike first before allowing a nuclear Iran."

"If I had to put down odds, I think I would [bet on] the latter," he added.

As someone else pointed out to me, the movement of the SCUDs from Syria into Lebanon was probably done in preparation to counter or discourage an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. Wondering how much this administration knew about the SCUDs. Did they give the wink to Syria to pass them through purposely to discourage an Israeli move against Tehran?

I don’t think they are naieve enough to believe that any effective sanctions are coming. They are getting ready to go for it without our help...likely with help from some surprising sources (like the Saudis, who loathe the thought of a Persian Shiite bomb)

Obama has a plan.

Back away from Israel, question their policies
Support Israel's enemies
Go soft on Iran to force Israel to act alone
Demonize Israel to the world after the operation

What would the fallout be if the Saudis allowed Israel to use their airspace and that fact became known in the Muslim world? They might be able to avoid our/Iraqi airspace, but we'd probably still have to know it's happening. What's Israel's air refueling capability? The Jihadis would go nuts, SCUDs would rain on Israel, what would happen in Iraq?

The article says that it will take Iran until 2015 to develop nukes. That's the consensus of those in the know. I don't buy it.

1. N. Korea needs money and Iran is willing to buy. NK will sell anything from know-how to technology to delivery systems to a working model. It's just who they are. "After all," they'd reason, "Iran's getting the nuke, anyway. We might as well sell them XYZ."

2. The IAEA is simply unreiable, and any foreign intell agency with agents on the ground are only giving a best guess.

3. The US has turned a blind eye. That's official policy, so one can't trust official pronouncements from the USA.

Israel's best COA?

a. Any opening given accidentally by the enemy should be immediately seized. Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

b. US is supposed to be out of both Iraq and Afghan by 2012 as part of Obama's re-election strategy. That would be a great time to overfly (because we're not there) and to injure the guy with the big teleprompter mouth in his re-election bid. (so that you don't have to put up with him again.)

c. Do not trust anyone, and especially don't trust the US media, to include Jewish media types from the left or the right. For some reason, they are always spineless.

I wonder how that will work after Iran targets our ships. I’m hoping the Navy doesn’t take casualties because of O’s stupidity.

It would have been nice to have had a team effort. I just hope the Navy doesn’t get sucker-punched.

Israel will eventually be forced to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities. In hindsight, they should have used the window between November 08 and January 09 to launch the attack. But they gave the new U.S. regime the chance to prove itself, which it has. The next best opportunity to neutralize the threat posed by the Iranians is this afternoon.

US Navy warships being struck by the Iranians in the event of an Israeli strike fits in very well with Obama’s plan. Israel would be made responsible.

Iran attacks us and Obozo points a finger at Israel. I don’t think that will play well to voters. Unless Obozo orders a massive retaliation, he’s toast.

Of course maybe that’s his plan. He’d benefit from patriotic fervor if he nailed Iran hard. I doubt he has it in him though.

No dessert when Abbas visits the WH unless he promises not to nuke anybody until after 2012. Must pinky swear to make it official.

While I don't blame you for that characterization and assertion of 0bambi's setting up Israel as the responsible party, such "logic" is nonsensical, and simply advertizes to the world that "the US can be effectively bullied (under Zero)." Using paradigms that allow (yea verily, encourage) ourselves and/or our array of possible responses to become hostage to bad guys' threats is always a totally unacceptable premise. If we've determined the baddies are so vile as to attack the US because of actions by others, the Iranians simply need to be taken out by us alone, if need be with extreme prejudice, at the next feasible moment. "This afternoon" would work well, as someone else said earlier on this thread.

if someone is in yer bedroom and tells ya they are going to slit yer throat, you dont show em where the kitchen cutlery resides...much less wait patiently for em to lay down a blade if they already have one...

Lord Bless and guide Israel, and forgive those of us who dont agree with the insanity from DC...
