I would like to start a list of conservative alternatives to AARP. Please post your links to conservative organizations that are NOT related to AARP. Perhaps you're involved with one of them. It would be nice to hear your input as to your satisfaction of the organization.
That’s the one people were recommending at CPAC.
Thanks for your link. Are you associated with them?
No, but I am just 50. So thinking about it. I’m sure there are plenty of members here.
I won’t join AARP, guaranteed!
I’m 51. I’ve thrown out all aarp crap. But, I haven’t researched alternatives in depth. More so, I’m researching alternatives to obamacare. How to avoid it. I’m just opting out of it. Come and get me. Thanks again for the link.
I am about to be 61 and refused to renew aarp since they came out against Social Sec reform-privatization. To me that was unforgivable we could already be 3 or 4 years toward a real system if not for them.
I joined them several months ago. Real conservative values.
Are you happy with them so far?
I’m not sure that AARP really does anything useful for seniors. It’s basically an insurance company and liberal lobby organization as far as I can tell. And their magazine is boring. I cut up my card many years ago. Now I just send back their pre-paid envelopes empty. I have not replaced AARP with anything.
I can’t see how anyone would still belong to AARP.
I sniffed around their website. A bit thin at the moment, but they’re trying. Their “Stand on the Issues” looks like it was written by Jim Robinson. What’s not to like?
What do you get with an AARP card? Is it just discounts? If so, you can get the same with AAA and you can get your car towed to boot.
I cut up my AARP card when I saw they were supporting the health care bill. I joined ASA (American Seniors Association) Go to www.americanseniors.org to see what they have to offer. The latest benefit I just received was a discount prescription card. I have been pleased. They do promote themselves as the conservative alternative to AARP
I send the PrePaid envelopes back too except I attach them to a BRICK first. That way they have to pay the postage on the full weight. Imagine if everyone did that? . . . Just sayin’
On just this past Sunday I was at my mom’s and saw the AARP renewal letter. I asked her what she actually used that was related to AARP. She couldn’t name a thing. There’s virtually nothing that AARP recommends (and gets a kickback for) that cannot be purchased independently.
The other senior organizations also have travel discounts, and in a lot of cases you don’t even need to be a member of a senior org. to get a “senior” discount at a motel. Just ask if they give them.
I would love to see AARP lose a lot more of its membership.
AARP is old school, and so are my parents (dad is WWII vet). When obama won, my dad thought the ‘kennedy’ democrats would govern correctly in the best interest of the US. I told him otherwise. We had a huge arguement. Older folks don’t realize, this is not the same democrat party of 50 years ago.
AARP is involved with supplemental insurance with medicare. Besides discounts to ‘early bird’ meals and hotels, they offer discounts to the insurers they sponsor (they get a kick back) towards seniors who use their sponsored insurers, but, the game changed and now it’s all about death panels. Seniors are scared, frightened, and mad as hell. The current system will fall apart shortly. So, I don’t even know if joining a conservative retirement group is even worthwhile at this time. I’m just exploring alternatives.
