Arkansas Senate: Lincoln’s Support Continues to Slide
Rasmussen Reports ^ | April 28, 2010

Posted on 04/28/2010 4:29:22 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln has fallen to her lowest levels of support yet in her bid for reelection, while her five top Republican challengers now pull over 50% support from Likely Voters in the state. Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter, who is challenging Lincoln in the Democratic Primary, runs only slightly stronger than she does.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in Arkansas shows Lincoln receiving between 29% and 32% support in the five potential match-ups. All five Republicans have either tied or surpassed their highest levels of support so far this year.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of voters in the state now have a very unfavorable opinion of the Democratic senator, while 18% view her very favorably.

Of the GOP contenders, Congressman John Boozman earns the most voter support with 57% to Lincoln’s 29%. Less than a month ago, Boozman was earning just 48% support from voters in the state.

State Senate Republican leader Kim Hendren picks up 51% of the vote for the second straight month against Lincoln, while State Senator Gilbert Baker earns 53%. Businessman Curtis Coleman crosses over the 50% mark for the first time since February coming in at 52%, while former State Senator Jim Holt picks up 54%.

Lincoln has been criticized in many quarters for her vote to keep the national health care plan alive in the Senate. Arkansas voters continue to express stronger opposition than voters nationwide against the plan, with 65% who favor a repeal of the law. That number includes 55% who strongly favor repeal. Just 30% in Arkansas oppose repealing the law, with 21% who strongly oppose.

Both parties will pick their nominees in May 18 primaries, with runoffs on June 8 if no candidate gets 50% of the vote.

This is amazing. The Senator was once well-liked. I am now wondering, will Lincoln stay in the race just long enough to keep Bill Halter from winning the nomination, than drop out?

What’s this... Blanche is no longer blanched, but singed, cauterized, blackened, seared... and toast?

I'm betting she'll hang in. Once someone has tasted Washington, especially the Senate, they are very reluctant to give that up.

I know Lincoln is up for reelection and Pryor is not. But Pryor has cast practically the same votes in the Senate as Lincoln, and there doesn’t seems to be a peep of criticism of him. Anyone know if he is catching any flak in Arkansas, and are the voters hoping to retire him when they get the chance?

John Boozman is a friend of mine and a really good guy with a solidly conservative staff. Don’t know the others.

She’s on the ballot so she’s getting the flack. I don’t know what will come in 2012.

It’s amazing we’re gonna win a seat in a state that we didn’t run a candidate in last election.

He’ll be sharing the ballot with Obama. That has the potential to go very poorly for him.

Pryor was reelected in 2008, so he won’t face the voters again until 2014, a year in which not only will Obama not be on the ballot in AR, but hopefully he won’t even be the president anymore.

If Princella Smith can win the GOP primary and the general this year, she would have four years experience in Congress before the 2014 elections and could be a strong challenger against Pryor. Of course, she’ll only be like 31 years old, and may decide to stay in the House for a bit longer before running statewide (I think that she’d be 35 in time for the 2016 gbernatorial election).

Of course. Doh.

It’s anyone’s guess what the atmosphere will be like in 2014. But I’d wager on a net gain of Senate seats that year.
