Politico's Josh Gerstein and Patrick Gavin have a long article describing the growing anger of the White House press corps towards the Obama White House. Many of the grievances are petty, though some are serious and substantive (involving lack of transparency and media manipulation), but the passage that I found most revealing is this one:
Much of the criticism is off the record, both out of fear of retaliation and from worry about appearing whiny. But those views were voiced by a cross section of the television, newspaper and magazine journalists who cover the White House.

I read an article a number of years back that described how newspaper editors during the forties and fifties (before the advent of television)used to assign reporters to their Washington Bureau for only a year or two. This was to prevent the reporters from developing too close of a personal relationship with those about whom they were reporting.
But today, all of that is gone. Once television became the dominant medium the “pretty boy” reporters, who love to hear themselves speak as well as see themselves on TV, took over.
This is why we have a cadre of reporters that are vulnerable to intimidation. They are petrified of losing their gig.
It is truly a sad state of affairs.
As a matter of fact, the opinion piece/article mentions that the press never complained about the lack of transparency during the Bush years: “(animosity strangely absent during the full-scale information blackout of the Bush years).”
Indeed. The lies in the quoted statement from Salon defy even Joseph Goebbels. Forgive me if I am unable to muster any sympathy for Ernst Rohm’s little group. They were willing to be used.
The MSM has played the part of being two bit streetwalking whores for Obamao and now are crying because he is pimp slapping them around like the two bit streetwalking whores they are.
