Obama Says He's Troubled by Anti-Government Rhetoric
Foxnews ^ | 5/1/2010 | Staff

Posted on 05/01/2010 11:22:12 AM PDT by Red in Blue PA

President Obama said Saturday he's troubled by the angry rhetoric of those who are trying to make the case that government is "inherently bad."

He told graduates at the University of Michigan that people who take that line of attack seem to forget that in a democracy, "government is us."

Obama also said in his commencement speech that members of the class of 2010 should seek out and listen to opposing views on the issues of the day.

His advice: If you're a regular Glenn Beck listener, then check out the Huffington Post sometimes. If you read The New York Times editorial page the morning, then glance every now and then at The Wall Street Journal.

He said that may "make your blood boil," but it's an essential part of being an effective and informed citizen.

“people who take that line of attack seem to forget that in a democracy, “government is us.””

This is a guy that doesn’t understand the difference between a ‘democracy’ and a ‘Constitutional Republic’.

From an old post here from one of my favorite ‘quote guys’ that came up second in a google search for “founders on democracy” :-)

Founders’ Quotes - Democracy Leads to Tyranny
Patriot Post - others ^ | 11/14/2007 | Alexander Hamilton

Posted on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 9:46:12 AM by Loud Mime

“It had been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience had proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.”
Alexander Hamilton June 21, 1788

“The world is weary of statesmen whom democracy has degraded into politicians.”
British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli -1850

“The adoption of Democracy as a form of Government by all European nations is fatal to good Government, to liberty, to law and order, to respect for authority, and to religion, and must eventually produce a state of chaos from which a new world tyranny will arise.”
Duke of Northumberland 1931

“I have long been convinced that institutions purely democratic must, sooner or later, destroy liberty or civilization, or both.”
Thomas Babington Macaulay

“Democracy forever teases us with the contrast between its ideals and its realities, between its heroic possibilities and its sorry achievements.
Agnes Repplier

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
C.S. Lewis

A good politician under democracy is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.
H.L. Mencken

Nothing...is unchangeable but the inherent and unalienable rights of man.
Thomas Jefferson (letter to John Cartwright, 1824)

Be in general virtuous, and you will be happy.
Benjamin Franklin (letter to John Alleyne, 9 August 1768)

And this one I cannot verify:

A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.
A writer claimed it was Thomas Jefferson, but it’s not in his style.

Yeah, but take a gander at those pearly whites. Dazzling, my boy, dazzling. No wonder Vera fell for him.

President Obama said Saturday he’s troubled by the angry rhetoric of those who are trying to make the case that government is “inherently bad.”

We have a President who needs to use his lifeline to call someone who has a clue.

Not to Barack: it is not that we do not like government, it is that we do not like what government has become: wasteful, partisan, irresponsible, clueless, immature, socialistic, codependent, gutless, discriminatory, punishing, ad infinitum. Get a clue. And what business do you have going to a university to complain? Again, you are showing your complete lack of good judgment.

But this...this doesn’t bother Obama one bit.

There’s more ‘anti-goverment’ (actually anti USA)rhetoric here than he can find anywhere!

Welcome to ANARCHY!!!
....and look at all the garbage on the streets!!!

YOU ALL MUST SEE THIS THING...there is NO police brutality...these people are masters at fear mongering & race baiting and they hate the cops and the USA!

Here is another good one:

Dear Barry,

I do listen to the more liberal and therefore lower rated talk hosts in moments of morbid curiousity. They were, are, and ever will be wrong.

To grads everywhere, welcome to the real world.
