Anger Over Arizona Law Sends Thousands Into the Streets: Big rallies?

CHICAGO (May 1) -- Angered by a controversial Arizona immigration law, tens of thousands of protesters - including 50,000 alone in Los Angeles - rallied in cities nationwide demanding President Barack Obama tackle immigration reform immediately.

"I want to thank the governor of Arizona because she's awakened a sleeping giant," said labor organizer John Delgado who attended a rally in New York where authorities estimated 6,500 gathered.

From Los Angeles to Washington D.C., activists, families, students and even politicians marched, practiced civil disobedience and "came out" about their citizenship status in the name of rights for immigrants, including the estimated 12 million living illegally in the U.S. Protestors attend an immigration rally Saturday near the University of Michigan, where President Barack Obama was delivering the commencement address to graduating seniors

Police said 50,000 rallied in Los Angeles where singer Gloria Estefan kicked off a massive downtown march. Estefan spoke in Spanish and English, proclaiming the United States is a nation of immigrants.

"We're good people," the Cuban-born singer said atop a flatbed truck. "We've given a lot to this country. This country has given a lot to us."

Where are the BIG rallies? Maybe they should have held them at bus stations so the illegal aliens could demonstrate as they were getting on a bus to go home.

I’m wondering if they had permits to gather - I mean, if they don’t, the gathering would be illegal and the police could ask for ID’s....

That would be a happy ending!

This is big news.

Tea Parties are not.

Violence, racial slurs and calls for uprisings will be downplayed in the story on these rallies.

The lies about violence, racial slurs and calls for uprisings surrounding the Tea Parties will continue to be spread.

Welcome to Obamaland. :)

These are BIG rallies, and they are newsworthy, unlike the Tea Party rallies. At least that’s how the mainstream media sees our world.

Today’s Los Angeles news noted they expected 100,000 and only around 40,000 showed up.

If the IRS had their digital cameras at the rally, that would be the short list of folks not paying taxes....

Gloria and the other critics of Arizona’s immigration law need to travel more. A lot of countries have immigration laws that are FAR more strict than ours (even the documentation requirements for tourists are more strict in many countries).

According to someone I know who hires questionably documented migrants in So Cal, they are going home. Not enough jobs here any more. The Gangsters are barking up the wrong tree, but don't tell them that. That is the problem with basing your support on the undocumented. You have no idea how many there actually are.

They’ve given us crime, and they’ve taken our tax money.

So a few illegal aliens held rallies; so what.

Millions of U.S. citizens support enforcing OUR laws - and that’s the only thing that matters!
