Palin urges 'common sense' folks to get involved politically

Independence, MO —

Sarah Palin felt at home Saturday in Independence as a hockey mom and as a maverick.

"Where else can a hockey mom feel right at home but right here in the home of the (Missouri) Mavericks?" said Palin, a former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, at the Independence Events Center before a crowd of 2,500 attendees. "It takes me back to 2008."

Palin's keynote address concluded Preserving American Liberty's one-day event "Winning America Back," featuring well-known conservatives providing their perspectives on the U.S. Constitution, health care reform and recently passed legislation in Arizona that affects illegal immigrants.

Before talking politics, Palin proudly displayed a Missouri Mavericks hockey jersey made just for her 2-year-old son, Trig, who has Down syndrome. Each morning, Palin said, Trig wakes up, rubs his sleepy eyes and applauds the day.

"I think that's something we can all learn from," Palin, 46, said.

*snip*

Palin spoke against many of President Obama's policies, including health care legislation and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, but she also said that even Republicans often think of stimulus dollars as "free money."

She applauded the nation's Tea Party movement and encouraged residents to volunteer for campaigns they believe in, even if those running for office are the underdogs.

"They are the everyday, hardworking American," Palin said of political newcomers. "They have the common sense that we need."

Like many speakers throughout Saturday afternoon, Palin charged attendees to make a difference in their communities and to take back the principles that the United States was founded upon.

"You don't need an office and you don't need a title and you don't need a teleprompter," Palin said. "Don't let them get you down. Just keep fighting. My dad always says, 'Don't retreat. Just reload.' Don't let anybody tell you to sit down and shut up."

Events center staff prohibited signs and posters, but supporters still wore T-shirts with messages like "Obama care: It's just bad medicine" and buttons with images of Palin as Rosie the Riveter saying "We can do it!" Several audience members waved American flags in honor of messages they supported.

Kind of like he’s saying “Nice job, God.”

What a great story.

Once again, Sarah has the message and energizes the crowd.

Also once again the enemy knows we are weak thanks to Obama
and have been watching FOX live re the car bomb in Times Square that did’t go off but car burned.

I am also watching the Times Square news on Fox now.

I was there with my daughter. Hate to say it, but Sara was flat and a bit disappointing. Today was a perfect opportunity for her to dig deep into her knowledge and experience of energy issues in light of the gulf oil spill. She really only spoke in sound bites and phrases we have all heard before. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Part of me wondered if Sarah was just going through the motions. If you think she is going to run in 2012, you’d be wrong, her heart just ain’t in it.

The real stars of the show today were:
#1 J.C. Watts, Absolutely awesome! The crowd was cheering for him to run for Pres in 2012. Looking for a true star of the GOP? Look no further - it is JC. If the video of his speech today ever comes out, it’ll go viral and people will be claiming he is Obama in an alternate conservative parallel universe.

#2 Kris Kobach (co-author of the new AZ law). This guy doesn’t talk in repetitive sound bites and when he speaks you listen because he probably knows more about the constitution, the law and conservative values than all of Free Republic combined. He is like a male Michele Bachmann but with an IQ of 180.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao-ChvKS7HU

#3 Fred Thompson, Fred had some good things to say and even joked about his lack of commitment early on in the 2008 Pres race.

I’m sorry you found Sarah a bit flat. It was her second appearance of the day.

“Governor Palin’s Doubleheader in Michigan and Kansas City” - she’s a very busy patriot, yet she took time to personally meet with students after the event.

Al B. can better tell about that part.

JC is happily enjoying retirement, he even said in response to the 2012 pres chants that he is trying to “uncomplicate his personal life at the moment, not the other way around.

I’d love to see Kris on the national stage but he is a lightning rod even at the local level for Kansas. It will be at least another 4-8years before he is ready to get packaged as a national candidate again.

He ran last time?

So you threw Sarah under the bus (who has not declared that she is running anyway) for these two guys, one that is not interested, and the other that will not be ready to be "packaged as a national candidate again" for 4 to 8 years?

Lets see, that would be 2020.

Like anyone else, JC Watts is free to run in 2012, if he wants to of course. But should he run, we'll give JC Watts the same thing he gave the GOP in 2008, when he backed the Marxist 0bama, because of his color, instead of the GOP.
I have no time whatsoever for idiots like Colin Powell and JC Watts, who when push comes to shove, almost always decide to back skin color instead of principles. He will get quashed like a bug if he runs.

If you think she is going to run in 2012, you’d be wrong, her heart just ain’t in it.

Gateway Pundit had a different take on it. They said "Sarah Palin lit up the Independence Events Center tonight." There's a video of the last 2 1/2 minutes of her speech at their website. Hard to hear her speak over the applause and cheering, but they did the best they could. Check it out.

In the last 60 days Sarah Palin has given 23 speeches in 12 different states, including 2 speeches in Canada.

She has made 5 TV guest appearances and has had her own 1-hr. special on Fox. She has helped raise hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars for charities and politicians, including $500,000 for Michele Bachman alone.

Yeah, her heart's not in it. Get with the program, Sarah!...LOL.

Ronald Reagan had the benefit of not having the internet spotlight shed on his every utterance, yet during his 1980 primary run he had a person on his team whose sole job was to rearrange words and phrases in his campaign speeches to keep it as fresh as they could. Sarah, however, is not running for anything and is simply trying to motivate and inspire people to get involved and fight back against the commies taking over our country.

She's doing just fine.

You have no idea that Sarah isn’t going to run....that’s you opinion...which I’m glad is just an opinion.....we have to wait and see, but she is leaning towards running just by the fact of her new “organization” that has been under wraps for months and her getting daily international briefings and her defending her record in Alaska......BTW one of the reason for getting money is that if she runs, she will be facing Mitt who already has his own money to get out there on TV in those states once he declares and one does need to counter-balance him

First I’m not throwing Sarah under the bus, I’m reporting what I saw. Re-watch that video, in most of it the crowd is very quite. If they had posted the entire speech you might have a more honest view of the event. What gateway pundit calls “Hard to hear her speak over the applause and cheering, but they did the best they could” - I would say is because Sarah’s delivery was linear and didn’t anticipate, pause or play off the crowd.

Don’t get me wrong - I voted in 2008 for Sarah and that old liberal guy. I read her book cover to cover. I’ve also attended her speeches in person before, so I know what she is like at her best. I want her to run in 2012 and clean Obama’s clock. Unlike Obama or Clinton she would make a better president than a candidate.

However if she is so exhausted from all these speeches that she comes across to her own supporters as tired or not passionate enough then she is hurting her own brand long term.

Her theme of “I Love America” is great for a campaign but she needs to get much more focused and dare I say become more of a policy wonk. Repeating back to us what we already know and feel, using the same words & phrases we would use isn’t what Reagan did to lead us out of the wilderness. We need another Reagan in 2012. And if she is going to be that person she has to begin doing a lot of things differently starting Now.

For example - she could have dropped all the one liners and Rah Rah go USA stuff and talked about her experience with deceitful oil companies who were sitting on their Alaskan leases and how she delt with them. Then tied it back to the Gulf Oil spill going on. She could also have blasted the enviro wacko’s as hypocrites for giving Obama a pass.

BTW, JC Watts supported Obama? you really believe that? Show me your reference - or are you just making it up? Last I heard he didn’t support McCain but then again neither did any of us. We supported Sarah and held our nose over the mess the Republicans had made. ‘My Friends’, McCain was an awful candidate and earned our pity more than our vote.

You're not alone here in your belief although to me, it's a question of timing and I agree with her on this. The focus needs to be on the disaster that is Barack Obama, not her policy proposals. She has said publicly that she will be speaking out on policy solutions after November. For now, she seems to be trying to rally people going into fall elections. I think that's the right course.

For example - she could have dropped all the one liners and Rah Rah go USA stuff and talked about her experience with deceitful oil companies who were sitting on their Alaskan leases and how she delt with them.

I agree on talking up her record. She addressed her dealings with the oil companies in Alaska in her facebook posting on the oil rig disaster, but she needs to get over her reluctance to talk about herself and start pushing her record in Alaska which is outstanding. She needs to make at least some reference to her record in every speech.

BTW, JC Watts supported Obama? you really believe that? Show me your reference - or are you just making it up?

Is Watts serious about Obama? "Well, no, I didn't say that," he told Sean Hannity on his national radio show today. "What I said in the article was that I was a free agent. No one should assume that J.C. Watts should vote one way." This doesn't mean he voted for or supported Obama. I'm from the Show-Me state so if you can... show me what I'm reading is wrong.

Take a look at the crowd reaction to her speech at the conclusion as captured in this clip:

http://www.youtube.com/user/jackohoft#p/a/u/0/JzWf7hfTwV4

See for yourselves what the blogger who was also there had to say about her speech at the linked video clip.

“Sarah Palin: You Don’t Need an Office, Or a Title, Or a TelePrompter To Make a Difference”

From: jackohoft | 01 May 2010”

Sarah Palin threw out some raw meat during her terrific speech at the Winning Back America Conference in Independence, Missouri tonight. The crowd loved her. Here she told the crowd to get involved,

“You don’t need an office. You don’t need a title. And, you don’t need a TelePrompter to make a difference.” ...

This story from the Local TV station also throws doubt on the posters take....

http://www.kctv5.com/news/23411288/detail.html

From the Report:

“Many in the partisan crowd were thrilled with the speech”.

“I thought it was very moving,” Destiny Young, of Independence, said. “I definitely got inspired by her speech. I think a lot of the things she said were true.”

Palin’s policy prevented cameras from rolling after the five-minute mark in her speech. Her talking points during the speech included health care, government takeover, and current economic conditions.

“I think first and foremost it was dead right on the point,” Kansas City resident Daniel Simmons said. “America is sick and tired of being sick and tired.”

Kansas City grassroots organization Preserving American Liberty booked Palin in January. It sold more than 3,000 tickets for the “Taking Back America” event,

“I was there with my daughter. Hate to say it, but Sara was flat and a bit disappointing.”

If that is what you consider “flat and disappointing”, you need to have your hearing aid checked. Fortunately, the internet makes it impossible to spin crowd reactions, so anyone with eyes and ears knows that you either weren’t at the speech or you have someone else in mind.(J.C. Watts?? Give me a break!!)

She was splendid as anyone with eyes and ears can tell. Nobody hits a grand slam with every speech, but Sarah Palin has the best batting average (by far) of anyone, in my observation of American politics, over the last 40+ years, and that includes “The Great Communicator” himself.

This speech was a three run homer.
