Tea Partiers behind Arizona immigration law
Orange County Register ^ | May 3rd, 2010 | Dena Bunis

Posted on 05/03/2010 5:50:20 PM PDT by South40

The Tea Party movement was founded to campaign for lower taxes and limited government. But at least one faction is now branching out and standing behind the new law passed in Arizona that says police officers should check the immigration status of anyone they believe may be in the United States illegally.

The Tea Party Express has put a petition on its web site. Those who sign it are saying they stand with the people of Arizona and that they reject any efforts to boycott the state because of the law that will take effect in less than three months.

“The federal government has failed in their duties. And so we at the Tea Party Express stand with those great patriots in Arizona who have stepped forward to take action and do the job the federal government has failed to do itself,” is part of the petition’s message.

Yep, have to say I agree with them. Is there some sort of barf tag on this?

And there’s something wrong behind supporting this law?

It sounds like the author is saying the tea partiers aren't correct in their statement and support.

I suppose there should have been. The misleading headline alone warrants it.

She's right. TEA (Taxed Enough Already) partiers = TAX PAYERS.

The freeloaders are on the other side.

Not in my opinion. That said, the new law would be unnecessary if the federal government bothered to enforce their own immigration laws.

Not only their own laws, but the very Constitution itself. Article 4 Section 4 mandates that the federal govt protect the states from invasion.

The feds broke the contract, the state has to act.

The Tea Party does NOT endorse candidates OR propositions OR laws!

The Tea Party is a conglomeration of ALL like minded citizens who disagree with the current government in power!

The Tea Party members will make up their own minds on the above topics!

If the Tea Party starts endorsing or approving without my approval, I will quit!

I didn’t give anyone my approval to claim they represent me!

They're already using immigration to split the Tea Party
Claiming that the Tea Party should oppose it because it's "big government."

Ah, there's no contradiction here. With illegal aliens coming in and getting on all of the government programs, that expands government, forces tax increases. You can have open borders or a welfare state, choose one.

Could be, if it’s unconstitutional. The key is the Fourth Amendment protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

However, it looks like the bill and the governor are covering that issue. As long as they abide by the rules of reasonable suspicion, they should be OK. The article explains...

[S]he signed an executive order directing law enforcement in Arizona to develop a training program that will include “what does and does not constitute reasonable suspicion that a person is or is not legally in the United States.’’ The bill specifically says that a person’s race cannot be used as the “sole” determinant of whether an officer asks for someone’s proof of legal residence or citizenship in the U.S. But it doesn’t bar that as one consideration.

Bingo - just want to be sure their methods are Constitutional and it appears so since they seem to be ensuring that the rules of reasonable suspicion are not violated.

The biggie, of course is first sealing up the border and then, a clear plan for dealing with the illegals already here. I wish they would come up with a plan along the lines of:

- In jail or legal trouble - deport immediately.

- The rest, give them a grace period time to come forward voluntarily & ID themselves, screen and deport uncaught criminals (other than they're illegal entry).

- Those that are left that have come forward are given the chance to what they would have to do to gain legal entry – apply and go though all the steps necessary. Those who refuse, deport immediately.

- After the grace period (a month or so), round thos who didn't come forward and kick them out. Hasta la vista baby, maybe, don’t forget to write, and next time try it the legal way.

“the tea party” did not have a policy to reform immigration; although most people of the tea party would be for the rule of law because that is constitutional. This guy is trying to do a race division hate thing. “Brown people - all those whities at the tea party want to git cha! Vote for the commies! We hate the rule of law like you do!”

Relight The Patriot’s Lamp
(The TEA Party Poem)

I bow my head in the depths of my pain
Finding this mess a heartless bout insane
Political careers mean more then freedom
And the cruel élites reward only some

Money is becoming toilet paper for all
And taxes rage at the liberal’s beck and call
Homes are bank bound at a racer’s pace
As they keep lying to us straight into our face

The rule of law has become a twisted joke on all
And the very structure of our land begins to fall
Power is a fearful drug of choice for them now
And they intend that we’ll be humble to bow

Politician in my book, simply a long way to spell
Liar in a new way, and their plans are becoming fell
We’re the unwashed masses they seek to rule
To them we are but ignorant fools who drool

National greatness is different to them you see
It means totalitarianism for folks like you and me
They will have the means and make ends meet
For us the wolves of despair will prove fleet

Crashing economies, lawless immigration, and terror
Simply tools to achieve that goal they see for us as fair
Lies drip from their mouths like spittle from a fool
And we rage at the frustration of living under their tools

I scream in growing anger at the medialess void now
Hoping enough victims rise to throw them out somehow
Freedom is not free, we see the price of losing it near
And we need to repel the effect of their greed here

Time to stand at the bridge at Concord one more time
Before the dollar becomes worth a single damn dime
Taxation without representation rears its ugly head
As we find the tree of liberty needs be once again fed

Its now or never, time to stand and regain that lost
Time to firm our resolve and stanchly pay the cost
Find the spark that made us great before they came
And return the greatness of this nation’s name
