Arrest Made in Times Square Bomb Case
NY Times9 ^ | 4 May, 2010 | LLIAM K. RASHBAUM, MARK MAZZETTI and PETER BAKER

Federal agents and police detectives arrested a Connecticut man, a naturalized United States citizen from Pakistan, shortly before midnight Monday for driving a car bomb into Times Square on Saturday evening in what turned out to be an unsuccessful attack. (snip)

The man, Faisal Shahzad, 30, was believed to have recently bought the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder that was found loaded with gasoline, propane, fireworks and fertilizer. (snip)

The authorities began focusing on Mr. Shahzad after they tracked the sport utility vehicle to its previously registered owner in Bridgeport, Conn., who had advertised it for sale on several Web sites. He paid cash, and the sale was handled without any formal paperwork.

The former owner told investigators that it appeared the buyer was of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent, but could not recall his name.

Early Tuesday, at Mr. Shahzad’s former home in Shelton, Conn., just outside Bridgeport, a neighbor said that Mr. Shahzad and his wife, Huma Mian, spoke limited English, and kept mostly to themselves. The couple had two young children, a girl and a boy, said the neighbor, Brenda Thurman.

Ms. Thurman said the couple had lived at the house at 119 Long Hill Avenue for about three years before moving out last year. Mr. Shahzad left around May (2009), she said, and his wife followed about a month later.

Ms. Thurman said Mr. Shahzad got up early every morning and left to work nicely dressed, and had told her that he worked on Wall Street.

Interesting, Shahzad became a citizen in April 2009 and left his Conn home in May 2009. Back in less than a year to wage war against his fellow citizens. So what was going on in his mind when he made his citizenship oath?

BLOOMBERG SAYS BOMBER COULD BE HEALTH CARE OPPONENT

From CBS:

[Bloomberg later told CBS Evening News Anchor Katie Couric that the suspect behind the bombing attempt could be a domestic terrorist angry at the government who acted alone.

“If I had to guess 25 cents, this would be exactly that. Homegrown, or maybe a mentally deranged person, or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something. It could be anything,” he said.]

The WSJ Morning News program is reporting that three men were removed from that flight. Can someone here on FR confirm this?

I’m leaving for Greece out of JFK on Wednesday. Yikes.

You have to marvel at how the cameras, the VIN number technology, and the connection to Conn occurred. They had his cellphone calls to Pakistan and knew all about his tickets to leave via JFK. Technology...brought this guy down. He may have thought he was smart using Craig’s List....but it was just another link back to him.

One of CNN’s jackasses was more than annoyed when one of his invited experts stated that it was most likely an islamic jihadist.

He ridiculed the expert when the next so called expert appeared with a much different supposition.

Shahzad = terrorism suspect.

Have they used the word yet? TERRORIST? I listened to the BBC radio this AM and they were using the word but didn't the Obama admin decide they wouldn't use these terms anymore?

I knew it when they kept saying "white man" that they put that out so not to offend the muzzies

Yes I have to say I'm so impressed with how swift they got this guy!

Another thing that amazed me was all the security cameras - My husband and I go into the city and the broadway area frequently and I never knew how many cameras they have on all the buildings ....pretty amazing

“So what was going on in his mind when he made his citizenship oath?”
“Stupid americans. They make it so easy to kill them. Especially with that fat homosexual in charge of homeland security and my brother muslim as president.”
Something along those lines.

Has the Obama administration made a statement that this guy was completely off the radar, and that NO government agency was tracking him at all? Was he really a surprise, or just evidence that the criminal justice approach works too slowly to avoid attacks?

Nice to know that the government is so happy to claim credit for being so good at clean up.

Note the worked on Wall St...

Bill Bennett yesterday noted a friend of his had diner with a Muslim couple, both successful. This subject came up, the husband was against this kind of thing and the wife had no qualms about strapping a pack on herself.

It has been here for a while, but it is becoming more self evident, that we have posers that live normal lives and are willing to delve into this evil Jihad.

As much as the Bamster wants to spread over this like it is some sort of frosting on a cake, the threat is real and has not and will not go away.

Beltway Sniper Redux.

PC police agencies & media can't help themselves: They're always chasing after the “white man” in the “white car.” It must be a permanent mental fixation.

I'm not buying that. Had this guy been successful at blowing himself and his car up, the leftwing media was going to try and pin it on the right. Obambi's desperately looking for his "Reichtag fire" and this would have been it.

They put that "white guy" thing out there because that is what they wanted the public to believe - that a white guy did this. Listen to Mayor Bloomberg's statement on this - he jumped right on the "disgruntled white guy" bandwagon along with the state-run media talking heads.

There's an upside to government spy cameras - and a downside. Something to ponder in a day and age when speaking out against ones' government is no longer "patriotic".
