It seems quite a bit more than suspicious. When he returns for his dog, your relative should ask him where he traveled to for said “training” and what kind of training he received. If anything doesn’t pass the smell test, your relative should report this to the FBI. Seriously.

I think he was going to be gone for at least a week - I’ll check.

In my considered opinion, the "explosive device" was never intended to explode. It caught fire and generated volumes of white smoke. There were propane cylinders, bags of fertilizer, several plastic gasoline containers, and some M-80 firecrackers.

Propane in a steel cylinder is not going to do anything unless you have enough of a primary explosion to rupture the steel cylinder. This mess wasn't even close. The gasoline would burn not explode and there was probably more gasoline in the SUV's tank then the ten gallons allotted to the "bomb". The eight bags of fertilizer may or may not be an actual explosive. If it's ammonium nitrate it will explode if prepared properly, if it's weed and feed it will not. The thing is, 30% AN is not generally available and is a known explosive component so you just can't waltz into a hardware store and wheel it out to your truck. It also generates a paper trail for the ATF.

I expect the M-80's were supposed to be the "detonator". They are not anywhere close to having enough bresiance to get the job done. Anyone serious about building a bomb would have tested the components (discreetly, in an out of the way place) and uncovered the weak link before blowing $30,000 cash for an SUV loaded with a dud. With "tinted windows", of course.

Detonators are usually the weak link however, terrorists have a work around by preparing acetone peroxide, also know as "Mother of Satan". ATP is a primary explosive with more then enough bresiance to detonate properly prepared AN. It has also sent a number of amateur chemists to their heavenly reward.

The whole deal smells to high heaven and is most likely a put up job. Time will tell who gets blamed for this "amateur hour" production. My bet is Bloomberg's hint of "right wing crazies" is just the beginning.

Regards,
GtG

Can't you just hear the Damn and other expletives in The White House when they first heard? . . What a disappointment. Here they were hoping for a white right wing extremist. . .

Totally agree. Very amateur hour. Something just not right about all of this. . Diversion?

Watch for it on the CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN or MSNBC sometime today. But don’t watch too long . . . ‘cause you will be wasting your time. Only way that would ever be reported is if:
The bomb was placed by a TEA Bagger;
The bomber was white;
The bomber listened to Rush;
The bomber was a Christian;
and of course, Republican! Other wise, move on. there is no story here!!

Reichstag fire, It plays on existing fears (terrorists) and allows the government to solidify it's hold on all power. Better then the original as they didn't even have to burn down a building, just project the idea of what could have happened and blame their perceived enemies.

I think you are right. Fear = give more power to the government. More investigations, more departments, more "to do", etc. I'll sure be glad when Nov, 2010 and 2012 get here. They seem so far away now. . .

The Suspect appears in NY District Court for his arraignment, dressed in rather unusual prison attire...

I wonder what MIL ties he has.

Remember when they were linking The Snipers and other (Moslem) killers of the time with the MIL? Guess we can add Ft. Hood to that list.

Because, you know, the common thread is that they’re all MIL guys! There’s no other similarity! No common religion!

The way the title reads, you would think he was arrested because the bomb failed. You would expect that from Reuters, of course.

Re the dog; IIRC Sharia law does not permit the owning of pets. Muhammet apparently hated dogs.

It seems that a Muslim can own a dog for hunting or home security but I don’t think they are supposed to allow them inside the house or particularly like them.

If this Middle Eastern Pilgrim owns a cute little shitzu or poodle I’d wonder if he was a serious Muslim; a vicious pit bull would be more consistent with hard core Sharia IMHO.
