Young People Deserting Obama
HUMAN EVENTS ^ | 05/04/2010 | Ron Meyer

Posted on 05/04/2010 12:19:04 PM PDT by george76

I'm always entertained when older folks try to reach out to people my age. It's hardly ever a pretty sight and most of the time these attempts end up being hilarious. I found myself chuckling at Barack Obama's most recent effort to beg young voters to come out to the polls this November.

No one is buying it anymore, especially young people.

Even the most liberal of my generation are frustrated with the President... The radical environmentalists on college campuses across the country were furious when Obama opened up the coasts for limited drilling.

Young Americans are realizing they did not get the politician they bargained for.

Better yet, some of us are realizing that the Obama presidency is punishing our future. Down the road, we will be the ones forced to pay off the record-breaking deficits and debt that Obama's budgets and trillion-dollar spending programs are leaving us.

There is little doubt that Obama will have a hard time reconnecting with the new voters he had in 2008. While he may get the koolaid-drinkers, it appears most everyone else is dissatified with him and his policies.

That is of course, except for the ones that don’t want to admit that they were lied to by the professors.

"Losing my religion..."

For some, that reality is too earth shattering.

Whatever happened to "question authority"?

You mean they finally woke up that Obamacare was a fascist plan that THEY will pay for?

Poor babies. Paying back student loans AND being forced to buy ins. they don’t need. ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!

Most libs I know believe that liberalism (socialism) is “freedom” because you don’t have to be “enslaved” to taking care of your basic needs.

Look up the video “Acorn Girl” on youtube for an example.

It’s looking more and more like Obomber’s plan for 2012 has to involve massive voter fraud-it’s his only hope.

"Saw somewhere today the Obamistas think they can recover in time for the 2010 midterms because of a better economy. Good luck with that . ."

Yep, the economy is just roaring back to life! ;-)

Another part of the equation is that they have been told the pernicious lie of “people (ie, you) are basically good” and they seek all avenues of affirming their goodness.

Espousing liberal policies makes one feel good about oneself, especially if you go no further and examine the effects of those policies in the real world.

Without God in their little self-centered atheistic lives,
they have nothing else to wrap their self-worth around.

“They should make it so that ownership of a home is a requirement to vote”

I have been saying the same thing about bonds for years. How is it remotely fair for people who don’t pay property taxes to be the deciding margin in a vote for bonds?

Yeah, that $3.09/gal I pumped into the Sante Fe yesterday certainly makes my pocket book a little lighter. Gas prices are going to destroy any glimmer of a recovery and unemployment will continue to rise.

Awwwwwwwww. Not good news for the ‘RAT strategizers:

These are the notes taken by a participant in a National Organizing for America Strategy Session that took place on Monday, May 3 in my area of Central Florida.

Attention: RE: Alan Grayson (D) Orlando, Fl.

May 3, 2010 OFA Strategy Call

Event format: David Plouffe, Mitch Stewart, and female commentator in w/ about 15 people in “studio” audience. Each state had an on-line chat with an OFA moderator to answer questions. Viewers could call, tweet, text questions. I was impressed with how easy it was to access this event and how every form of media was used. They even texted reminders 15 minutes before the session began.

2010 Mid-Term Election Strategy

1 Concentrate of First Time voters

2. Re-connect with First Time voters of 2008

Actions

1. Door knocking

2 Phone call

3. Peer-Peer discussions

4 Social networking (very important in reaching young voters)

*OFA will provide tool necessary for grassroots workers such as phone banks, talking points, printed material.

Two Immediate Requests of Campaign Workers:

1 Host a house party

2. June 5th National Day of Action (similar to “Knock for Change” in June of 2008)

Profile of First Time Voter

Likely gets news from social media outlets so your social networking circles are very important.

They don’t absorb in-depth political news, so talking points are important

They are cynical about whether their vote matters, so pledge cards are effective (have them sign an OFA card promising to vote)

They know very little about the political process (where to vote, deadlines to register, etc) so, provide this information.

ALL INFORMATION “must be easily accessible on-line requiring very few keystrokes. If they have to dig for it, they won’t.

Importance of the Message AND THE MESSENGER

The message is important but the messenger is very important. “Peer to Peer” means the messenger. Should share the “same experience” as the community. They emphasized the importance of “neighbor to neighbor” contact, as well.

They spoke about the need for the message to be beyond winning the election, it must be visionary. (Basically their message is help Obama complete his vision by voting for democrats. They realize that Obama is their best salesman and they will engage him as much as possible). They intend to use the message that Republicans put big biz, big insurance, big oil above families. Democrats support families thru expanding health care and college loans. Also, when the Republicans talk about spending , democrats intend to point out the Bush spending.

“They should make it so that ownership of a home is a requirement to vote”

Good one. Wait until summer hits. All the college and high school kids on break competing with adults and illegal immigrants for the few jobs that are out there.

They’ll be hoping for change real fast.

I smell a RAT.

Obomas entire agenda is based on green (not actually green as in leaves - more like green as in currency) technology and green taxation. There's no way in hell he'd agree to off shore drilling - unless he knew in advance he'd have a way out of it.
A rig explodes, and his green agenda is back on the table - big time.
"Why, he couldn't have had anything to do with it. Big oil was his friend. He really, really liked off shore drilling."

Never listen to what a politician says. Watch what they do.

"Yeah, that's the saying. However, considering the shackles liberalism puts on people, I argue that liberalism is a heartless ideology."

Oh liberalism definitely depends on keeping constituents trapped in their dependency.

It's just that when you are young, you don't have enough experience to realize that.

If you haven't figured that out by the time you are old, then you don't have any brains.

I think unemployment has basically peaked, but I don't see it going down much any time soon. It's a lagging indicator and usually last to recover. The MSM has pounded the “jobless recovery” theme for so many years I don't think their cheerleading for Obama and a recovery will convince anyone as long as it stays around 10%.

Everyone who voted for Obama is a child, regardless of age, and regardless of their reason for voting for him.

When you’re young, you’re used to your parents providing for your needs - food, shelter, medical care, transportation -

so it’s easy to get a youngster to believe that the gov’t should provide these for everyone.

I would imagine that the former Obama boosters of 2008 on the young side have simply forgotten about him. It’s his older supporters who will follow him over the cliff now. They are waiting for their checks in the mail.
