You're right. There's another one in PA who was running against Murtha. His name has slipped my mind, and it's not worth looking up right now. I've contributed to both his campaign and to West's.

Party officials and the candidates themselves acknowledge that they still have uphill fights in both the primaries and the general elections, but they say that black Republicans are running with a confidence they have never had before. They credit the marriage of two factors: dissatisfaction with the Obama administration, and the proof, as provided by Mr. Obama, that blacks can get elected. "I ran in 2008 and raised half a million dollars, and the state party didn't support me and the national party didn't support me," said Allen West, who is running for Congress in Florida and is one of roughly five black candidates the party believes could win. "But we came back and we're running and things are looking great."
Beware, the coverage is from the NY Slimes.

Steele & the Republican Party will almost HAVE to support these black Conservatives!!

If they don't - it will make Steele look like he was picked as a 'token' black.

They might just have to hold their noses & run Conservatives in the primaries, whether they like it or not.

The Conservative base will wind up being the winners.

I am 75 years old. I have seen the almost unbelievable changes in racial realities during my lifetime.

It galls me that the incredible improvement in opportunities for our people have resulted in the election of a third world, anti-American Marxist like Obama.

I'm a little over 20 years behind you, but I have seen most of those same changes in our culture over my lifetime.

I can't count the number of times I've told other black people to get on with it, because the war is over, and we won.

Like you, it pains me to see the hard-won gains of the last half-century squandered on elevating a man to the White House who is the antithesis of all that is good and great about America, but who represents the failed Socialist mind-set of a bygone era.

If it was "time" for America to have a black president, Obama was one of the worst among us be the first to cross that threshold. Any number of black Americans would have been a much better choice, and would have served America better.

I nearly get tongue-tied thinking of all of the faults and disqualifications Obama possesses, and of the many qualifications to hold the office of president that he lacks.

Regarding your newsletter, first-edition-online.com. There are some well-written editorials there.

Montana, huh? I’ll bet it’s a wonderful place to call home.

It is ironic that when I was a liberal Democrat I injured my back picking up campagn literature for W. Wilson Goode, during his campaign to become the first black Mayor of Philadelphia, PA. He was elected.

He turned out to be a disaster. He was arrogant. He lied and double crossed many of the people who helped get him elected and was basically a bad mayor. I remeber joking with some friends by saying that Wilson Goode was elected so that Phila. would never elect another black mayor.

There are similarities between Goode and Barack Obama. I don’t think that Wilson Goode was good for Phila. and I know that Barack Obama is not good for America.

I am in trouble now with my daughter because she is supports Obama. I am very disappointed in her. She is a smart woman, but like so many other black people in America, the symbolism of a black president prevented understanding that Obama was not American in his views. Every one of the people he identified in his books as having an impact on his life have been Marxists, in some cases criminals and very questionable in character.

He is a product of the third world and had to learn how to emulate American blacks, even in things like his speech patterns. Barack Obama is anti-American. That shows in almost every thing he has done since he became president. Unfortunately the emotional aspect of our people’s support for him has blinded them.

American black people, just like other Americans, are going to pay a heavy price for electing Barack Obama.

Thank you. And you are right. Montana is a wonderful place to live in regard to its mountains, forrests and rivers. Montana is beautiful. Unfortunately it is also economically depressed. Radical environmentalists have destroyed the timber industry which employed so many of the people here. Consequently the people who can afford to live here are retired or professionals of some kind.

We also have way too many liberal/progressives here. I consider them a cancer wherever they are. I have been fighting them politically since I got here. I expect to continue the fight.

>> Just a little reminder...remember Steele.

Black Conservatives do deserve our special attention for the simple fact it’s an unpopular combination in politics.

Despite color, the content of the rhetoric has positioned candidates like Allen West into the spotlight they deserve.

Cannot support randall...NC. Worked on his campaign for a while and finally had to quit because he’s not what he tells people he is. Not many people know, because he certainly doesn’t tell it, but he’s now on his 5th campaign manager, his 3rd treasurer, is over $48,000 in debt which doesn’t include two invoices totaling about $24,000.

What kind of fiscal conservative would over spend like that or choose not to pay his bills? Also, what kind of leader can’t keep a campaign team together? If one can’t even make good campaign judgements, how can he make good decisions with our dollars? We have enough free loaders in Washington right now and enough who feel the world owes them a living. Got facts, figures and witnesses to prove he’s not an honest man. He’s only interested in lining his pockets and livng off the government. Typical democrat I’d say....expecting everything to be given to him and living off taxpayers.

Do you happen to have a copy of the letter written by a female general, living in Texas explaining the history of black people and the Republican party? I think her last name was Rice.

My copy crashed with an older computer.

Thanks for that info on Randall. Since, I’m not familiar with all the particulars on each candidate, once information like this gets out to the public, better choices can be made. Thanks Again.

Sorry, I don't, but I did some poking around and found this:

"The effects of the Civil War and its aftermath would be felt for more than a century throughout the South, and especially in Texas. For its first two generations, Texas had known only honor, victory and valor. Though Texans never lost a battle at home during the Civil War, the Union army under orders from a Republican President marched in and occupied the Lone Star State after the Confederacy surrendered. For the first time, Texas would not be victorious. The next four generations of Texans would not forgive the Republican Party.

Early Support

African Americans were one group of Texans that would consistently support the Republican Party in Texas in those early years. In fact, throughout Reconstruction, African Americans comprised about 90% of GOP membership, and 44 African Americans served in the Texas legislature as Republicans.

It was through the hard work of a number of dedicated African American men and women that the earliest foundations of the Republican Party of Texas were laid. The first ever state Republican convention that met in Houston on July 4, 1867 was predominantly African American in composition, with about 150 African American Texans attending, and 20 Anglos.

The second State GOP Chairman, Norris Wright Cuney, an African-American from Galveston who led the Republican Party from 1883 to 1897, is said by State historians to have held “the most important political position given to a black man of the South in the nineteenth century.”

Very interesting. Here in Indiana there is a correlation between the counties that traditional vote democrat and the Klan and the houses know to be part of the Underground Railroad are in traditionally Republican counties.

My ancestors were supposedly part of the URR and were abolitionists....Only thing we have to substantiate that is Grandma’ copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin sign in the front with her maiden name...She was married in late 1870’s. They were Republicans back till the civil war.

My Civil War era ancestors came down on both sides of the fight. My G-G-G grandfather served with the Confederacy, while his brother served with the Federals.

Same split is happening in my family today.

You’re welcome gitmogrunt. I’ve met Mason Weaver and Angela McGlowan and think they are wonderful. Haven’t met Allen West, but I think he’s the real deal too.

Those were my wife's exact words, "The Real Deal" after we met Allen West. Awesome, Presidential material, if there ever was.
