Obama Administration Tries to Combat Criticism From Right Over Oil Spill

Amid mounting criticism of its response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama administration on Wednesday released a day-by-day account of its response, stressing that it was quick to take action.

The White House has faced criticism from both the right and the left in addressing the crisis.

“The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is an ongoing tragedy, and the American people deserve action to protect our Gulf and they deserve answers,” Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), the House Republican Conference chairman said on the House floor Wednesday.

“The American people deserve to know why the administration was slow to respond, why necessary equipment was not immediately on hand in the area and why the president did not fully deploy cabinet-level federal officials until he spoke at the White House on April 28," Pence continued.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called Pence “badly informed.”

“There was an explosion on April 20 that was responded to by the Coast Guard looking for those who had been injured and those who were missing,” Gibbs told reporters. “The morning after the explosion, [Interior] Secretary [Ken] Salazar deployed Deputy Secretary [David] Hayes to the region to assist in the coordination and response and provide hourly updates to Secretary Salazar about what was happening. On the 22nd, the president convened a meeting in the Oval Office with all of those involved. There is an 18-page document on our Web site about all that was done. What exactly response did Mr. Pence find lacking?”

On the left, a New York Times editorial on May 1 said the BP spill was a bigger disaster than the Exxon Valdez.

Yeah, can you imagine the ACTION we would get if an airliner full of psychopathic jihadists flew into the Empire State building?? I am sure the Islamic world would be slapped hard as Bush did to Iraq....(/gross sarcasm)

Remember that this administration is composed chiefly of community organizers and socialists who have never created a product or performed a service (that didn't involve stealing from someone else). Realistically, what could they have done? Condemning, forming committees and staging photo ops is all they know how to do.

MATTHEWS: I agree with you. I agree on all counts. Thank you very

much, Governor Dean, for coming on HARDBALL.

When we return, I‘m going to have some thoughts about the people who

got their man last night, the federal government, despite daily criticism

from the right wing. They got the job done. You‘re watching HARDBALL,

only on MSNBC.

Well the article sites the left unhappy as well. My problem was article title was too long. Longer than allowed to post article. But to be honest, the Obama folk are only interested in the going against the right.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called Pence “badly informed.”

While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "Work-Focused" Trip in Grand Canyon

On Saturday April 24, the first oil leaks were discovered.

On Tuesday, April 27, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that his department along with the Department of Homeland Security would launch an investigation into the Deepwater Horizon Incident. Salazar pledged “every resource we can to support the massive response effort underway at the Deepwater Horizon.”

Strickland and his wife arrived in the Grand Canyon that night.

Every one is whining about Nashville, Millington is home to a Navy base BUPERS and their housing was evacuated, damaged, hundreds of people are out of there homes from Millington clear up to Nashville. Yet no MSM coverage of our disastrous flooding. Or the twisters in MS and AR.

My heart goes out to all including those in Nashville effected by the flooding. I’ve family there, but it is one of many cities effected very badly by the flooding. 52 counties in the State are effected by this storm system. Along with MS and AR by twisters that hit the same day as the flood.

Shelby Co. is the red headed step child of the State.
