Please point out what is revisonist about my statement.

Fact is that The Soviet victory at Stalingrad changed the
tone of the war. Fact is that the SU killed more Germans than all other combatants combined.

Yes yes we all know that Stalin was a dictator, accessory
to murder, agressor in Poland, Finland, the Baltics.

NKVD were evil. Beria was evil. yada yada.

I am saying that in the war against Hitler, the SU carried
the vast majority of the battle on the ground and brought
it to the Reich. You can’t revise those facts out of existence.

The average Soviet soldier fought for his Motherland and was as much a victor as any Tommy or GI.

“Actually Russia did help win the war and at a frightful cost.”

The entire sentence is revisonism. Russia didn’t help anyone “win the war.” They fought a fellow Socialist dicatator for supremacy over Europe. I didn’t say they didn’t fight Germany. I didn’t say they didn’t suffer. I am saying it is revisionism to even consider they did this for any other reason than it was a falling out among dictators.

By the end of the war in the guise of “helping” fight the Japanese they looted China and helped Communists take over that country and the North of Korea. They tried to take it all. They weren’t on ‘our side’ or the side of freedom. They simply had the same enemy.

The average Soviet soldier fought for his motherland because he would have been killed if he hadn’t. How many parts of the Soviet Union originally welcomed the Germans? There were plenty of true believers, and there were plenty of those who had no choice after decades of Soviet supremacy.

“Yada yada” is 61+ million murdered.

You can misdirect with facts all the time. But all the facts usually allow the truth to come out.

Fighting Germans did help win the war. Are you seriously disputing this fact? If so, you are in serious denial.

BTW, we also punished soldiers who failed to fight for their motherland.

Had Patton had his way, a lot more than were actually shot..

The fact that Putin is making decisions about like this about head of state level invites, when he is merely head of government, merely confirms that Medvedev is just his sock puppet. But it’s not like this is news.

Is that why Papa Joe thought he deserved to keep half of Germany and eastern Europe after the Germans were defeated?

Does your “sacrifice” include the Russians killed by the ruthlessness of Stalin and his regime (not to mention others such as Poles and Ukranians)

Oh, and does the Russian “engagement and defeat of Axis forces” include their extremely brief but entirely selfless entry into the war against Japan?

“help” win the war, not what I said. If not for the people Putin snubbed this week, he’d be speaking German.

I was referring to the victory in Europe. No-one is disputing the Stalin was a bastard (which is a massive understatement) but the fact of the matter is that the Nazis focused most of their war effort against the Soviets, who bore the brunt of the German onslaught and contributed most to its final defeat.
As for the war against Japan, Russia’s main ‘contribution’ to events was to hand over tons of captured Japanese arms to the Chi-Coms, who were up until that point the underdogs in the Chinese Civil War, and give them the means to defeat the Nationalists and seize control of all of mainland China.... Frankly, it would have been better if they had not been involved at all....

Pringle hosted a reception on Thursday at the new British residence in Moscow, along with soldiers from the 2nd Company Battalion the Welsh guards who will march in Red Square.

I wonder if Luke Harding learned English as a second language? The identification of that unit makes no sense. There are usually at least a few companies in a battalion and at least a few battalions in a brigade or regiment. The Welsh Guards are a well known regiment.
