A proposal to grant medals for "courageous restraint" to troops in Afghanistan who avoid deadly force at a risk to themselves has generated concern among U.S. soldiers and experts who worry it could embolden enemy fighters and confuse friendly forces.

"The gentle citizen can sleep peacefully through the night only because some really nice guys stand ready to run from those who would do them harm."
Somehow, I just don't think that's going to work.
More Insanity.
AKA the Neville Chamberlain Medal?
Actually...could we use this for federal cops and state police as well? It might be an interesting change.
How illustrative of the present regime... the Greatest Armies of the world run by an appeasing coward.
A medal for “courageous restraint.” WTH is that? Sounds....sounds...rather “French” to me.
The government is crazy. This is not our government. They need to go asap.
Call it the “Kick Me” medal.
Crossed swords?
Nah, too violent.
How about a man hiding behind a rock?
Nah, to vague.
I know, a graphic of the coffins all your buddies were sent home in. Yeah, that's it.
Is the war over?
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
George Santayana
Who would wear such a medal?
Must be a relative.
"Who would wear this medal?"
Someone with no shame(D).
...and even more insanity:
This, from General Petraeus who is obviously setting himself up for a political future with the Democrat party, states that Army officers no longer need to be warriors, but, instead, they need to be “Community Organizers.”
South Carolina
CHARLESTON
Petraeus describes officer qualities
The four-star Army general who oversees U.S. forces in both the Iraq and Afghan wars told cadets at South Carolina’s military college that he needs warriors who can do more than kill and capture the enemy.
Gen. David Petraeus told 2,100 cadets at The Citadel in Charleston that their studies will have to go beyond understanding how to prosecute war or call in air strikes.
The 57-year-old head of the U.S. Central Command said he needs officers who can negotiate with local authorities, understand how to rebuild societies torn apart by war and be leaders who understand their soldiers, sailors and airmen.
Following his speech, which was part of the college’s Greater Issues series, Petraeus was inducted into the Citadel School of Business Administration’s Hall of Fame.
The hall recognizes leaders who demonstrate integrity and respect and work for the professional and intellectual development of people.

“Don’t fire, until you see the whites of their eyes”
to be replaced by
“Don’t fire.”
Fortunately, this won’t confuse any soldiers. They’ll snicker at it and move right on killing the bad guys.
“Courageous Restraint??!!
I have no words for this.
(I felt the same about a UN decoration I was in some danger of “earning” in the late 80s. Fortunately, I was able to avoid receiving it by the expedient of asking my commander in confidence NOT to recommend me for it.)

I hate to break it to you folks, but our troops have been fighting - and dying in much higher numbers per month, for a year now...
Is it going to be awarded to all of our heroes that have already paid the ultimate price due to this insanity?
Obama put this into effect a year ago - the results has been to double our losses - each month - since the beginning of the war.
They have tied our troops hands behind their backs. It’s difficult enough that they are fighting an enemy without uniforms, that mix themselves in, deliberately, with civilians, including children.
Out troops are DELIBERATELY being scarified in favor of the Taliban. When the new ROE came down, it was even ADMITTED that it would result in more of OUR troops being killed - but, the rationale from Washington was - It will be worth it in the long run.
WORTH IT FOR WHO?
The Taliban have been quick to take full advantage of this. They can also send men to scout and observe our troops as close as they want, without our troops being able to stop them, and get valuable information to launch an attact = As long their - scouts - are not visibly carring a weapon, our troops can take NO ACTION.
And our troops can be pinned down, being killed and being refuse air cover because there MIGHT be civilians in the area.
This UN crap is nothing new, folks. Haven’t you been paying attention? Obama put this in a year ago for OUR troops. (and if they capture a tali, they can no longer question them and get info that moght save lives - they must read them MIRANDA RIGHTS.) He has a lot of blood on his hands. His sympathies are NOT with our troops
Here’s one example that happened last year - where were you all then? The video of the desperate request for air cover has, evidently, been scrubbed from the net - I can no longer find it. But the text is here - the video with it is not the original:

U.S. commanders, citing new rules to avoid civilian casualties, rejected repeated calls to unleash artillery rounds at attackers dug into the slopes and tree lines despite being told repeatedly that they weren’t near the village.
We are pinned down. We are running low on ammo. We have no air. We’ve lost today, Marine Maj. Kevin Williams, 37, said through his translator to his Afghan counterpart, responding to the latters repeated demands for helicopters.
