All part of the plan. Get people to think health care comes from the government at no cost, what is to stop them from saying the same thing about food?

Karl Marx knew what he was doing when he made free public education one of the ten planks of the Communist Manifesto.

Public education mission-creep. We went fro the three Rs to every extracurricular activity you could think of, and free food.

We are teaching them right. They know where their food is supposed to come from.

"What we've noticed is that when kids are eating nutritional meals, they tend not to get involved in negative activities such as doing graffiti or committing delinquent acts because when their stomach is full they make good decisions," said Gillespie.

LOL! Stop graffiti! Eat more chikin'!!

Oh, great. Another generation of slaves dependent on the government plantation for basic sustenance.

Leave us not kid ourselves!!!

Leave us not "buy the spin"!!!

Leave us call a spade a spade.

Leave "Uncle Sam" out of this.

Substitute "the American Federal Tax Payer" in the statement for the words, "Uncle Sam".

This provides a far more realistic phrase.

When I lived in MA I thought I knew what government dependence was, including generational welfare/SSI families. Then I moved to a small southern town. I’ve been in shock ever since. The number of people on SSI, foodstamps, etc., is staggering. Most are able-bodied. Some brag to me that they can buy more food with their gov. credit card than they can eat. Since they aren’t allowed to buy pet food their animals eat beef and chicken, etc. A lot of them work under the table. It’s totally out of control.

Two things stand out here.

One, that it’s an *evening* care facility. Where are these kids’ parents? Why aren’t these kids being fed at home—and how much do they see their parents?

Two, that it’s a *vegetable* lasagna dish. The article did not indicate whether this just happened to be on the menu, or if the facility only provides vegetarian food. While an adult may be able to survive on a vegetarian diet, kids need a balanced diet. Brain development can be permanently affected by an unbalanced diet.

There are 80 million household in the US.

Last week it was reported that 40 million are on food stamps.

Wow. Half of American households are on food stamps.

There is a difference between abstaining from red meat during Lent and eating a totally meatless vegetarian or (even worse) vegan diet during a prolonged period.

I read about a study where kids in a third world country were given essentially identical diets, with the same calorie content, but one diet contained meat and the other no animal products. The kids fed the diet without animal products had lower IQs (by a few points), and they did not catch up to the other kids. (This was in Environmental Health and Sciences journal; unfortunately, I don’t remember the issue number.)

There are very few truly vegetarian cultures in the world.

Wow, this would just warm the bleeding hearts’ hearts. Not mine. What is a 3 year old doing in a government run school anyway? Until dinnertime? Why don’t the parents just sign them over at birth? It’s obvious they aren’t with them most of the day and can’t even be bothered to feed them. I betcha mama’s got a cell phone though. I betcha she’s fluent in texting. Probably got some manicured finger nails too.
