I wonder if he hangs the xerox copy of the placard from the mirror too?

Wouldn’t the cop be able to contact the MV dept and have it tell the cop whether or not the sticker was legit?

AZ has a great website with lots of info. I’d so some research on the website first rather than trusting someone answering a phone line working for the state actually knows the law.

There's an awful lot of information out there on the subject. Just do a google.com or other search for these words: federal law handicap parking interstate reciprocity

Note that the "check ahead" advice concerns "special privileges" that another state might offer ~ e.g. not paying parking meters, etc.

The rules are pretty uniform as are the placards these days. Early on there were some differences but I think the plastic placard people have pretty much beaten that sort of thing out of the system.

I have a question about the federal law. I got this from one of those internet lawyers and this is what they said: Many states have reciprocity agreements with each other over the use of handicap placards, however, if you are traveling and plan to use your placard, it makes sense to call ahead to a DMV office in that state and find out if there are any additional requirements that must be met. Some states prefer to issue a temporary placard from their state good for the duration of your trip.

Just because this guy didn't know about the law doesn't mean it doesn't exists. Would you remember the name, I'd like to make a copy and keep it in my car's glove box.

Some of these guys think of shooting the citizens before calling in to verify a story.

“ou put these kind of posts up several times a day, to turn people against the cops.”

Yeah cause we wouldn’t want to know the truth about our public servants.

don’t fight with police.

Exactly!!!! Disabled or not disabled has nothing to do with being a feisty jerk who has such an anger problem that he refuses to sign and ticket and then fights with officers.
Geez, what is happening to our society that behavior like this seems to be the norm?

I think a simple check on the law will reflect that photocopies of tags are not legitimate proof that the driver is disabled. I could photocopy a friends tag in that case and get convenient parking anywhere, anytime.

Why the heck does anyone need to sign for a ticket anyway? Just give ‘em the thing and let it go! No need for that little extra hook that just causes trouble!

Today don’t most local cops have mini computers with access to those kind of records in their vehicles?

I never heard of having to sign the ticket right there.

It is required in most states I’m aware of. You are not admitting guilt when you sign. It’s only to acknowlege receipt of the ticket on which there are instructions. You still have the opportunity to pay a fine or go to court.

Sure, but when there’s a chance for a beat down some of ‘em just can’t resist.

I suppose he could open up his shirt for your inspection ~ but maybe you’d think he had a terrorist bomb planted in his shorts or something.

There's a federal law on these handicapped parking stickers.

An aside: I wonder where that authority is in the Constitution.

That was kinda overkill still having restraining issues when the guy with a heart problem was already handcuffed?

If that guy’s story is true that cop could lose his job and the city will be paying out some money.

Real simple ~ "post roads". No doubt it's all tied up in federal funding for US highways and interstates ~ but the deal is the state's were encouraged/bribed to work up a reciprocity agreement.

DC and other federal territories are part of it too.

It's an admittance of jurisdiction under the guise of agreeing to be bound by the administrative court. Without the signature, they have to arrest you and first make the argument that you are under the jurisdiction of the court.

This isn't some tinfoil issue - all motor vehicle codes specify application to commercial activities only, because the Constitution guarantees a basic right of citizens to travel freely. Someday someone somewhere is going to demand a ruling on whether the code applies to non-commercial activities... and the results will be verrrry interesting.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if NJ does that now.. It’s been decades since I’ve had a ‘lead foot’. Heh.
