LAKE CITY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A man said Tuesday that he is disabled was cuffed and tasered by police in Lake City for parking in a handicapped zone. Police said the man resisted arrest.

Fifty-four-year-old Chester Bradford has an implanted defibrillator for his heart. Bradford said he is disabled and is entitled to a handicapped parking permit.

Bradford said that last December while grocery shopping at a Lake City Kroger store, he pulled into a handicapped space and was questioned by police.

"I told him I could show him the papers," Bradford said.

According to the police report, Bradford showed the officer a black decal, which is different from a permanent blue decal or a red temporary decal. The officer thought the decal was fake.

Not that cops don’t like to use force whenever they can (heck, that’s why they signed up), I’m thinking that if you have various conditions, you should probably do your best to avoid even the appearance of resistance.

At some point...enough regular citizens will have tasers too...and then react to any cop who threatens someone on the street. This is a device that invites chaos...and I can only see trouble as we move forward.

Glad I read the article. When I saw “disabled” I assumed in a wheelchair. Tip for those with pacemaker type devices...don’t fight with police.

I never heard of having to sign the ticket right there. I thought you either pay the fine by the due date or show up on the court date to fight it.

I have to wonder if there wasn't a bit of a "Skip" Gates moment happened here, to cause the officers to react so "stupidly".

Is it policy to handcuff and arrest someone for simply refusing to sign a parking ticket? Or did the resistance start before the actual arrest?

I Georgia f you do not sign the ticket you can be arrested and require to post a cash bond. Your signature on the ticket is your "bond" in Georgia...

"You put these kind of posts up... to turn people against the cops"

How does a post (or several posts) do that?

A "regular citizen" could very well have a 12 gauge shotgun too.

Just a matter of time until both the cops in this situation "bite the bullet" eh!

If I were the police chief I'd get these guys off the job before they needlessly get themselves killed ~ just as a courtesy of course.

There's a federal law on these handicapped parking stickers. Cops not only need to know what the local ones look like but also what those from other states look like, and what the federal rules are.

If either one of them had been fully advised of the law this wouldn't have happened (unless, of course, they just love doing beatdowns on older cardiac patients).

No doubt the gentleman had a phone number available they could call ~ or, they could have had the number. I am betting dollars to doughnuts the cops didn't think of calling in to check this guy out.

Failing to sign the ticket in California means you go to directly to jail, you don’t get to pass go.
