Pekin, Ind. - A U.S. Census worker has been charged with rape and burglary, after two women in southern Indiana claim they were attacked. One of the victims was a 21 year-old physically handicapped woman. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, he had been with the agency for two weeks.
The attack occurred Saturday morning in Pekin, Indiana in Washington County.
Police said the man broke in while a mother and daughter slept and attacked them. According to investigators, the mother had taken a mild sleeping pill. The man, identified as 39 year-old Daniel Miller, was arrested following the incident. He said he worked for the government.
Four days before the attack, neighbors in the area say they saw Miller in the area on census business. The victim told police Miller had asked about their census information. She said they had already submitted the form. She also told police that Miller stuck around and tried to get more details.

"It's unbelievable that somebody could do something like that and not have a conscience and worry about it," said resident Debbie Bishop.
Miller's apartment is located right across the road from a middle school. When a news crew knocked on the door of his apartment, another man answered. He did not want to go on camera or be identified, however, he did say Miller had two daughters of his own.
Miller was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, held on a $150,000 bond.
There are about 635,000 U.S. Census workers currently going door to door counting Americans who did not return their surveys. They will carry white badges with blue writing. The badges do not have photos. Census workers should also be carrying black canvas shoulder bags and brochures printed in 51 languages. If asked, the census takers are supposed to give you a supervisor's number to call.
Even then, a background check is only going to get you so much. It's only going to turn up the stuff somebody's been ~caught~ doing.
Census Worker Rape Brings Background Checks Into Focus
Still no mention on whether or not the alleged perp had any priors.
“She also told police that Miller stuck around and tried to get more details.”
This guy sounds like a classic predator. He may not have a record, but I’d lay good money this isn’t “out of the blue” behavior for him, either.
Either way, what a creep.
No need to repeat: "I'm from the government" implies the second clause.
both x 2
I didn’t know there was a Pekin, Indiana. It is 322 miles from me here in Pekin, Illinois.
>> Im from the government, and Im here to rape you.
Yawn. Rape at the hands of the government is sort of a “dog bites man” story. ;-)

We got one today, and we DID return our survey. Although we didn’t necessarily fill it all out the way they expected.
As I recall, the badge he had around his neck was white with RED printing.
Doesn’t matter, I sent his a$$ packing in short order.
I’m sure we’ll get another one soon.
Ignore all census workers at your door.
If you believe you must talk with them, talk from behind a locked and braced door, with a firearm ready.
Yup, they look like raping murderers. Run!!!....
She was smokin hot!
We must live in the same neighborhood. The lovely young coed walking around my block with her census badge made me wish I hadn't mailed mine in.
Here's Daniel Miller, burglar and raper, and also a Census taker. He looks like such a nice guy....
Violation of privacy. Search without a warrant.
This is actually unreasonablesearch and seizure.
I am from the government census. Does your daughter like sex?
This whole politicized census should be trashed as inconstitutional.
What a creep.
Come on, the constitution allows for a census, not the extra questions but it allows for a census, if you didn’t mail the forms back, you’ll get a knock on the door. There are a handful or more Freepers that are doing this - we don’t have current jobs, or it’s supplementing what we do have.
Not every census worker is a rapist, and I’ll tell you it’s just as scary for us to knock on doors not knowing what/who is behind the door. It by no means pays enough for the what is potentially out there.
If it’s uncomfortable not knowing what resides behind closed doors, why do that census job in the first place?
Funny thing when you’re out of work - bills still need to be paid.
Anyone who does not want to talk to census workers simply need to print out this story and have it on hand if they suffer any ramifications because of it.
