Rep. Mark Souder (R-Ind.), a former congressional staffer who was elected to the House in the Republican revolution of 1994, has told colleagues he will resign Tuesday because of an affair with a female aide, a House GOP official told POLITICO.
Souder has scheduled an announcement about his future for 10 a.m. today at his congressional office in Ft. Wayne.
Souder is married and has three children.

I love that game. Not just first paragraph, right up front with his name.
Last night the New York Times was explaining how Blumenthal had lied about serving in Vietnam. But they couldn’t bring themselves to say anything like that.
So their headline was “Candidates Words on Vietnam Service Differ From History”. Like there is an argument between History and Candidate.
Of course, that article didn’t mention that Blumenthal was the Democratic candidate until the 3rd paragraph.
We were hoping Stutzman would run for Lugar’s seat, but we will take him anywhere we can get him for now.
The female congressional staffers are some of the best looking aroung. The temptation is there in spades.
Blumenthal was funny to me. He played the whole “Vietnam ERA veteran” this whole time. Dems in particular love this game. It never worked for George W Bush, but if these guys put on a uniform and buffed floors, they could use that little caveat to gain themselves some military cred.
Blumenthal just went a little too far. Not a good sign when a lawyer can’t even keep the weasel language straight.
is he conservative or a rino?
RINO! Good riddance.
And how many Democrats are getting away with doing the same, exact things, if not getting away with doing even worse things?
A**hole. Couldn’t keep it in his pants. The self-centeredness of these people never fails to amaze me.
Someone from Indiana, is this seat now in jeopardy for the Pubbies or is this the type of seat that the Republican candidate will win anyways?
Safe GOP seat. I hope that Marlin Stutzman (who finished a strong second in the Senate primary to Dan Coats) runs for the seat—he already represents several counties in the district in the state legislature.
Mr. Souder ran in 1994 on a promise that he would only serve TWO TERMS in congress if elected. He broke that pledge, being an eight termer and all. Souder railed against career politicians and the corruption that is visited upon good people inside the beltway.
Perhaps if Mr. Souder honored his solemn pledge to only serve two terms THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
Say yhat you mean, Mark, and mean what you say. Let’s hope that the GOP can retain this seat.
I don’t blame the whole GOP for the occasional worm.
It’s got too many people in it to hold them all accountable for this.
Many comment that since he’s a Republican, he has to resign.
Actually that pleases me, that in the Republican party you can not be a successful adulterer.
I think that is a strong positive for the Republicans.
oh pleasee...he should spare us the “announcement.” Just go.
he can run for Lugar’s seat in 2012
Since Indiana has already had its primary, do the state GOP officials slate a candidate to replace him? How does it work as far as which names are on the ballot in Nov?
He’s 59 and needs to stay active, I guess. IN Republican primary voters strike out again.
On social issues, he is extremely “conservative”: strongly in favor of abstinence education and strongly against gay marriage. He seems to be the worst sort of scum. I am glad to see him go, but I fear we will get a Democrat as his repalcement.
I was just checking that myself.
A whole bunch of them ran and got elected in 1994 promising to only serve a specific number of terms. Didn’t EVERY ONE of them renege on that promise? I think most of them are still there today.
