"I am proud of my service in the United States Marine Corps," Richard Blumenthal (D), candidate for US Senate, said. "Hoo-rah" and "Semper fi" was uttered several times. "I take full responsibility" for misspeaking he said.

"I will not allow anyone to take a few misplaced words and impugn my record of service to our country," he stated. "I served in the United States Marine Corps reserves and I am proud of it," he concluded.

"I did misspeak on a few occasions," he admitted. He also added that he "regretted" it.

I am not a Marine but have a fondness for the Corps as my dad served with them in WW2 and Korea.

Therefore it's my "educated" opinion a real Marine would not have ever made such a claim even though I know he was with the Reserve. His gunny would strip him to shreds.

For anyone who didn't see his appearance on Glenn Beck:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxVi1EzUmMI

Beck keeps asking him what specific law allows him to go after the legal bonuses given to AIG employees.

He never gives an answer.

He has to be one the slimiest politicians to come along in quite a while...He's not a very good liar

He NEVER was in the REGULAR MC.

I would not second guess regular from reserves. This SOB never saw more Marine training and "action" than the OC club due to daddy's connection. 99.999% of Marines, regular or reserves, do not have that pull.

Meghan doesn’t often rile me, but when she said Blumenthal stood “in front of REAL Vietnam Vets,” I lost it. How in hell does she know whether or not they’re as phony as he is? Anyhow, that’s my take on the “support” he received. The original speaker never even mentioned his own service in Vietnam, tho he mentioned rather a few of his subsequent work on behalf of vets.

If Jim Webb was correct (back in the days when he knew the difference between truth and falsehood), over three times the number of actual Vietnam vets claim Vietnam action. That’s a scandal, and I’ll bet the wanna-be number’s up exponentially as Vietnam recedes from memory.

Will anyone investigate the foreign-war creds of those who stood behind RB? Nah.

He’s a true Dem. Now that he has apologized, all will be forgive and he will be their hero again. Everything is hunky-dorey in the world again. Them pesky Pubbies and conservatives always causing problems.

When will the Dem/Libs get a brain! Words have meaning, not whatever meaning given at the moment or whatever meaning you want to give them after-the-fact.

April 30, 1971 - The last U.S. Marine combat units depart Vietnam.

My infantry battalion (2d Bn, 1st Infantry Regiment)replaced the 5th Marine Regiment in Danang in June, 1971. We ran some joint operations in order to get to know their AO. Whoever came up with that date, must have forgotten to tell those Marines that they had already left.

Your point is right on the money, Blumenthal was never at risk of having to go and he damn well knew it.

I sazy let him stay in the race. He will get slaughtered in the general election and it will be another pickup for the GOP. Then he can go back to whatever rock he crawled out from under and misspeak to his heart’s content.

I probably ineptly tried to make my point.

But what got me was somehow he tried to make it sound like he was just this Forrest Gump type guy that walked into a recruiting office and he was put on a bus to Parris Island.

This is a guy that got 6 deferrments, was a seantors staffer.
Worked out of the WH, NIXON WH, and NO ONE even whispered to him .

Especially getting deferrments while working for the Washington POST for GS.

Women were not allowed to serve in Combat zones back in the 60’s-70’s.

So.......what else have you "misspoken" about in the execution of your office Mr. Blumenthal?

And why did it take being exposed to make you come clean on your NON-record as a Marine?

Any companies, individuals out there who might just take the AG to task on possible malfeasance in carrying out his duties?

Admitting he "misspoke" more than once should open one enormous can of worms with focus on the office of AG in the state.

This Viet Nam vet would punch him in the mouth given the chance.

I’ve met many more phony VN vets than real ones since I came home in 1968.

March 25, 1971 - The 5th Marines departed Vietnam. Significance: The continuing redeployment of Marine units from Vietnam in accordance with the Keystone Robin plans.

April 14, 1971 - The III MAF headquarters, the 1st Marine Division headquarters, and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing headquarters departed Vietnam. The 3rd Marine Amphibious Brigade replaced III MAF at Da Nang and totaled 1,322 Marine and 124 Navy officers and 13,359 and 711 Navy enlisted men. It consisted of the 1st Marines, MAG-11 and MAG-16, and the 2nd Combined Action Group Headquarters. Significance: This was to be the last command adjustment before the final departure of Marine units in Vietnam.

Interesting. I think that this must refer to the headquarters elements. The guys we worked with were 5th Marines, perhaps companies, or a battalion operating under 1st Marine Regimental control. They were out of the field by 15 June and gone from Danang by the end of the month.
