The Rush Limbaugh Victory
New York Times ^ | May 19, 2010 | Zev Chafets

THERE are many theories for why very conservative Republicans seem to be doing so well lately, taking their party’s Senate nominations in Florida, Kentucky and Utah, and beating Democrats head-to-head in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia. Some attribute this to a generalized anti-incumbent mood. Others say it reflects the tendency of parties in power to falter in midterm elections. Recently it has been fashionable to ascribe right-wing success to the Tea Party movement.

But the most obvious explanation is the one that’s been conspicuously absent from the gusher of analysis. Republican success in 2010 can be boiled down to two words: Rush Limbaugh.

Perhaps it was done ‘purposely’ in error. Wonder if someone lost their job today due to ‘cutbacks’.

Thanks to Rush - without whom Hillary would now be POTUS.

So the score is Rush 4 and Obammy 0?

Without Rush there's be no Obammy. We'd have Hillary.
So Rush has a radio show and Obammy is POTUS.
So the score may be a bit tighter than 4 - 0.

if the party sweeps this November under the banner of Real Conservatism, Mr. Obama will find himself facing two years of “no” in Washington and, very likely, a Limbaugh-approved opponent in 2012.

We could do worse.

Yes, I do think people listen to the MSM. Just not all the time.

I also think when they persistently beat down on something for years people get tired of fighting back and fold (the war) even if they aren’t against it per se.

In Rush’s case I think the biggest contribution he makes is tethering different groups together. He doesn’t go as far right as everyone would like. He doesn’t stand behind the party to the extent they’d like. But I would say he’s the main reason a significant third party didn’t develop thus far. He’s been the advocate to work from within the system and the other voices are following his lead. From DeMint, Palin, the Tea Party itself. He’s the only one in a position of power respected and influential enough by different factions to create that uneasy peace.

I cannot stand the GOP anymore. But I’m trying Rush’s way for now. In some ways because it’s easier then building an entire new party structure. But mostly because he’s the one person that seems to be proven more right then wrong over time that I’ve observed and what he says today seems to mimic what he said 15 years ago. That track record and experience counts for something.

Hillary looks mighty good to me right now. One thing about the Clintons, they always worried about the polls.

Ah..to the couple of people stating Hillary would be President. When will facts get it through your thick skulls Obama was winning that primary with or wthout Rush? What Rush did was help Hillary keep it interesting awhile since McCain had no intention of fighting Obama. he only fights conservatives.

You want to blame people for Obama alright then. Let’s start with the idiots who selected Keyes to run against him in Illinois. Or the Republican primary voters who selected mcCain as his opponent. How about the American people obsessed with style over substance? Or the Republicans for screwing their voters so badly they felt a change, any change, was necessary?

No, can’t blame Rush for Obama. He was the only one to fight him.

>>Without Rush there’s be no Obammy. We’d have Hillary.<<

Keep fooling yourself.
George Soros picked Obama, preened and financed him.

They then paid their way to the Presidency.

Rush had NOTHING to do with that.

Rush has been stalwart for the conservative cause, even going after Republicans when they've veered toward the left in their 'go along to get along' attitudes.

Rush has also inspired many others, like Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity, to emulate him, and that has only increased the ability for the conservative message to get out in the country. Sure the MSM goes apey over talk radio and FoxNews, but that only serves to make people MORE aware of those outlets, and might even encourage some of them to listen in from time to time. I guarantee that if they do stop and listen, they'll find themselves agreeing more than they might think they might have. ;o)

LOL. Yah gotta be kidding.
I give Rush most of the credit for making Hillary so toxic that even Democrats were convinced she couldn't win.
Rush wacked her daily on his show from 1992 thru 2008. I know cause I was a daily listener (or at least whenever I could).
Obama OWES his presidency to RUSH. That's called unintended consequences.

BULLROAR!!!. Give Rush credit for crapping on her daily for years and making her so toxic that most Democrats were convinced that she couldn't win the general election and so they went looking for someone with less baggage.
History will demonstrate that no one played a more important role in making Obama king than Rush Limbaugh.
Now that everyone agrees that Hillary would have been better, some want to revise history. But it is what it is.

LOLOLOL!!! Yeah, right.
Rush wacks people daily. Didn’t hurt Bill any with his reelection. Hillary was toxic in her own right. And People didn’t want another “family” in the White House.

She wasn’t liked by her own party because of her smarmy attitude and nasty personality. Bill is a charmer, Rush couldn’t hurt him. Hillary was a target to many.

Seriously, Rush can’t hurt anyone with the libs. When he slams them, they circle the wagons. And I have been a DAILY listener since 93 when I ran a Medical Office. My babies would dance to the Limbaugh theme and called him, Uncle Rush.

You’re deluding yourself.

This is a good take. No, Rush can’t win every battle (Hoffman, PA-12), but he’ll win more than he loses, especially if the GOP cooperates.

“Now that everyone agrees that Hillary would have been better, some want to revise history.”

Hillary would not have been better. She would have been more effective for the Left. And so far, the BO regime has not had suicides, plane crashes or Wacos.

Subject to change, of course.

But the affirmative action sock puppet presently operating under the alias of “Barack Hussein Obama” is less threat than a revitalized Clinton gang would have been. Conservatives have not been this motivated since G. H. W. Bush began to covertly deconstruct the Reagan revolution.

There are many reasons why he can't and won't. He hates raising money---although I suspect he could do so in absolutely innovative ways and NOT be beholden to traditional "interest groups." I don't know one way or the other if he's a delegator, or how he is as an administrator: on his show, he's pretty much "it." Yes, he has a staff, but with something as large as the government, you have to work with people who are not entirely in your camp, even some within your administration. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan all dealt with such people.

The bad news is that without a Rush running for office, we'll never know what it would be like to have an "aggressive" conservative (vs. a "happy conservative" like Reagan) in office. I think that alone would be worth watching.

“Rush is fulfilling his destiny”

And he creates it as he goes along. It isn’t just “out there” waiting for him to fulfill- he MAKES it happen.

I agree. When he said that he hoped that Obama failed in January of ‘09, you could hear the national intake of breath. Rush noticed the dog’s mess in the living room and was not afraid to mention it.

Fewer and fewer Americans are willing to continue to pretend that the dog didn’t leave a pile on the rug and want it cleaned up so that the ambiance of living in America improves.
