Halter Holds Edge in Runoff
Political Wire ^ | May 20, 2010

A Research 2000 poll in Arkansas shows Bill Halter (D) edging Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) in their Democratic primary runoff, 48% to 46%.

DailyKos: "The poll's methodology may be overstating Halter's support by a couple of points -- the horserace question is asked after some leading issue questions. We'll be polling this race much cleaner next week (horserace question first). It'll be curious to see if the results deviate much."

This is not shocking, as the radical left wants Halter to be the nominee over the mostly but entirely liberal Lincoln.

But this can’t be. Gibbs said only Republicans are chasing off their “centrist” candidates. I’m sure Halter is the sensible moderate trying to defeat the radical leftist Lincoln right?

“sensible moderate”??

WTF is that?

Related to a Unicorn, maybe? Or a Cyclops?

A little satire there.

Boozman will face a stronger challenge in November from Halter than from Lincoln.

Former Representative from District #3 verses current Lt. Governor.

Halter is well to the left of Lincoln, and she’s out of the mainstream. Boozman will prevail.

I would think the far left Demo would not be that strong in AR but we shall see. So if he is running to the left of Lincoln does this mean he is more strongly pro 0bama in a state that went for McCain by a large margin? I don’t see how that helps him.

He’s strictly trying to appeal to the Dem party grassroots, which are far-left. The grassroots are sour on Lincoln because she’s not moonbat enough for them.

I’m not so sure Boozman is a sure thing.

Halter got elected Lt. Governor. That is state-wide.

Boozman has represented District #3; thus may not be known in the remainder of the state.

Typically, NW AR is Republican while the remainder of the state is Democrat.

I say again, Boozman will have tough competition if Halter prevails in the Dem run-off. Halter will get support from Gov. Beebe (Dem) and US Senator Pryor (Dem). Boozman doesn’t have any in-state high-position Republican to support him.

Halter got elected to an open seat in 2006 at a time when the AR GOP was crippled after a decade of Huckster’s mismanagement as Governor. Remember, too, that in 1996, Tim Hutchinson, the 3rd district GOP Congressman, beat a statewide Democrat officeholder. Arkansas is decidedly overrepresented with Democrats, and it’s likely we’re going to finally start to return to the margins more in line with the state’s national voting preferences.

This still scares me. I would rather people like Lincoln not be defeated in the primary - because who then knows what we’re running against in the General? Lincoln would be defeated in the General, but if not her, then who knows? This is the case in a lot of contests.
