Like Affirmative Action, Arizona Law Splits Elites and the Public
The Wall Street Journal ^ | May 20, 2010 | Peter A. Brown

Posted on 05/20/2010 7:05:22 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

There is a sizable disconnect between the views of many political elites who see Arizona’s new effort to identify illegal immigrants as symbolic of a mentality they abhor, and the mass of Americans who see it as a reasonable tool for police to enforce the law.

This is nothing new. A similar split appeared a generation ago over affirmative action – before Democrats, for the most part, decided they were better off not fighting Republican attempts to use the issue against them.

As the reaction to the Arizona law plays out around the country, it has the potential to become a factor in this November’s elections for both parties – potentially helping Republicans among the general population and Democrats among Hispanics. A similar pattern emerged regarding the overall electorate and black voters when it came to affirmative action.

Most Democratic leaders, their interest group allies and even some Republican elected officials have heaped criticism on the law. It came up Wednesday at a Rose Garden event with President Barack Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon. Mr. Calderon called the state law discriminatory and urged Washington to overhaul federal immigration law, and Mr. Obama said he wants a comprehensive immigration strategy but lacks sufficient Senate support.

But the American people see things differently. Solid majorities – almost half of Democrats, four-fifths of Republicans and almost two-thirds of independents, according to a recent Pew poll – think the Arizona law and its requirements are perfectly reasonable. Hispanics, however, view it in strongly negative terms.(continued)

I once knew a liberal who was a big time advocate of affirmative action. Of course he was a white guy who had already graduated from the University of his choice. He inherited money and didn't have to work that hard.

Boy did this guy change when his son was denied admission to that same university he attended. Many minority students were admitted with grades and test scores far below those of his son. And his son was a legacy. This guy was furious when it effected him directly. As long as affirmative action didn't affect him it was fine. But we all know these hypocrites.

The elite hire illegal aliens as nannies and gardeners. They don’t want to have to pay market wages to American citizens.

To synthesize a bit: Democrats want illegal aliens to keep stealing jobs from U.S. citizens.

When you're a wealthy liberal elitist, polite immigrants come into your neighborhood at sunrise and perform valuable services for a cheap price. Then they disappear as the sun goes down.

The rich liberals never ever encounter the illegal immigrant gang bangers and societal sponges. The MS-13 and the La eMe rapists and murderers would be arrested the moment they brought their tatooed asses anywhere near the homes of these priviledged liberals.

But the liberals think the poor Americans should learn to get along better with these scum. If they're nicer, the gangs will be nicer. Just stay far away from their neighborhoods and live in peace. Or not. Who cares?

And they actually feel good about themselves for holding these enlightened ideas.

And now a message from People Who Were Taught Grammar.

The word “Disconnect” is VERB. There is a NOUN already available for anyone who wishes to write in English: “Disconnection.”

A “journalist” not understanding grammar is like a carpenter not knowing how to use a saw.

I now return you to your previously scheduled illiteracy...

The elite hire illegal aliens as nannies and gardeners.

That's not it.

There is a set of privileged but extraordinarily deluded people who need to appease their own guilt, which, because of their own ego and selfishness, can only be manifested through giving away other peoples resources. George Soros is example extraodinaire. So are virtually all college kids.

Some aren't even aware of their hypocrisy. Others have got to know, but can't help themselves. Soros is a Jew, but was a Nazi sympathizer turning in Jews. College kids are just juveniles, having never contributed a thing to society, never raising a family, never running a business, never serving in the military, but desperately needing some altruistic rationalization for their life.

The Left are simply those unable to be honest with themselves. Blumenthal for example.

Does seem to be a common trait these days - doesn’t it? Wonder just who is at fault for that - the media maybe?

I fail to understand why not only elites but many middle class Americans do not see that this “cheap” labor is affecting everyone’s monetary status!! What we pay for their wages is tiny compared to the free services they get and we all pay for those.

A good way to start immigration reform is to immediately begin a policy that illegal parents cannot have an American child.

Also, many Hispanics legally here truly know that illegals are harming their upward mobility as they are competing for jobs with them!! Only problem is that the activists would make their lives hell if they spoke the truth!

Why do almost all articles decry Hispanics when we have Asian, African, South American, etc. countries who are also flooding us with illegals??

Sorry, but it really all about money! These liberals that hire illegals do so for cost benefits - not guilt. Actually, they are usually worse than most among us - same money while professing liberal attitudes and guilt.

“Liberals” aka Democrats/Socialists/Communists truly believe slavery is a personal choice freely chosen by poor and/or foreign people seeking a better lifestyle.

They seem to have an insane / warped understanding of spirituality, the simple and basic good versus evil concept eludes them.

The Wall Street Journal was always pro-illegal.

I remember a table-pounding WSJ editorial, 15 years ago or so, that demanded in the most strenuous language, that the GOP platform have a plank added:

The Constitution of the United States shall be amended to read, "There shall be open borders."

They backed off that truculence after 9/11.

They've always toed the line on wage-breaking by their best readers.

RIGHT--DIMS KNOWS FAKE IDENTITIES VOTE AND VOTE AND VOTE.
THAT'S WHY THEY'RE EXCHANGING AMNESTY FOR FAKE VOTES
SO WHERE DID THEY GET THOSE FAKE ID'S?

Rigging the US election system should be reported to the FBI (include the following news article).

================================================

2 Texans accused of planning to sell counterfeit IDs

(AP) 07/21/06---The Pelcastre brothers were a walking threat to US national security -- expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity. (ED. The illegals sell drugs to get the money to buy fake documents.)

When police stumbled across the Pelcastre brothers, the men had turned a Tonnelle Avenue hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local identity broker, authorities said.

The brothers, Angel, 31, and Jorge, 34, both of Dallas, were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of government documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses for any state in the country including passports and resident alien cards, .

"Can you imagine if a terrorist were able to get their hands on this stuff? They'd have free passage throughout the country," L/E said. Note that Mexico is the global staging area for entry across US borders.

A task force including NJ state troopers and officers from county prosecutors' offices happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in the parking lot of the hotel. Authorities wouldn't identify the hotel by name for fear it could hinder cooperation from other hotels in future investigations or spark retribution by murderous drug lords.

The Task Force regularly runs checks on motor vehicles in area motels. Members of the task force began watching the cars, a Chevrolet Impala and a Pontiac Firebird, and followed the brothers to an office supply store in a nearby shopping center, where the men purchased computer supplies.

Officers then followed the brothers to a self-storage facility in Secaucus, where they loaded several boxes from a storage unit into one of the cars. One of the men stood lookout, which heightened police suspicion, he said. Authorities approached the men when they returned to the hotel and questioned them separately. The brothers consented to a search of their cars, hotel room and the storage facility, he said.

Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs.

All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street. Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a fake document broker for a shipment of 500 Social Security cards, Della Fave said.

"They were aggressively selling to brokers. This isn't like selling driver's licenses to individuals. These were multiple layers of high-level documents."

The brothers were being held in jail without bail on charges of possessing fraudulent documents and conspiracy to sell fraudulent documents. Federal charges are also pending against them, said a member of the task force.
