Clinton: 'The rich are not paying their fair share'

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made a rare foray into domestic politics today, offering her view that — given America's high unemployment — wealthy Americans don't pay enough taxes.

"The rich are not paying their fair share in any nation that is facing the kind of employment issues [America currently does] — whether it's individual, corporate or whatever [form of] taxation forms," Clinton told an audience at the Brookings Institution, where she was discussing the Administration's new National Security Strategy.

Clinton said the comment was her personal opinion alone. "I'm not speaking for the administration, so I'll preface that with a very clear caveat," she said.

Clinton went on to cite Brazil as a model.

"Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and guess what — they're growing like crazy," Clinton said. "And the rich are getting richer, but they're pulling people out of poverty."

Both Clinton and Obama campaigned for president on promises to allow the Bush tax cuts for wealthy Americans expire this year, a plan that is now part of Obama's budget. The move will effectively raise taxes sharply on people earning more than $250,000.

The Administration's new formal strategy document makes the case that domestic economic strength is crucial to influence abroad.

Well, then, pay up Hillary! You can always donate what you feel is your fair share above your income tax.

Bill’s loaded. Why should he need a tax to pay his share, if fairness requires it? More ‘do as I say, not as I do’?

The rich? Is Hillary proposing that we implement a tax on accumulated wealth? Or has she simply mispoken in stirring up more class envy in favor of looting from those who are actually creating the wealth in this country?

So, if I understand her, she’s in favor of high tax, trickle down economics. Sounds contradictory. High taxes mop up the trickle.

Npthing stopping millionaires like Hillary from paying 90% of income into the government. Of course that is not what she meant at all!

One of the problems with liberals is that they never get past stage 1 in their thinking. They assume if they just raise taxes, the rich will just hand them over, which is incredibly naive.

The little people need to fork it over to support the elitists in the life style they’ve become accustomed to.

Uncivil Society: 1989 and the Implosion of the Communist Establishment, and the following sentences jumped out at me:

This is less a story of dissidents, so-called civil society, than of the bankruptcy of a ruling class–communism’s establishment, or “uncivil society.” The Communists borrowed from the West like drunken sailors to buy mass consumer goods, then were unable to pay back the hard-currency debts and so borrowed even more. In Eastern Europe, communism came to resemble a Ponzi scheme, one whose implosion carries enduring lessons.

I found myself wondering “And this differs from our political class…how?”

Let liberals of great wealth come forward to volunteer their wealth to the government. Leave everyone else alone IMO.

Class-ism again by Demon-crats.

If they want to play that game, then people should have the right to one vote per $5,000 paid in taxes.
Those who pay no taxes get no vote.

Sounds harsh, but IMO you would see the country straightened out darn quick of that happened.

Hillary is one clueless broad.

The upper income groups pay the overwhelming majority of all federal income taxes in America.

Also, increasing taxes KILL jobs.....cutting taxes create jobs. Sheesh.

When her husband had his arm twisted by congressional Republicans during his second term and agreed to cut the capital gains tax, the money flowed into federal coffers at a rapid rate....the government took in MORE taxes than before, not less, and the private sector was happy and invested more money in American businesses. Hillary and Barry are two Marxist peas from the same pod.
