The Drill Is Gone

Energy: An administration never enthusiastic about offshore drilling is using the Gulf oil spill as an excuse to suspend Arctic exploration. Who could've seen that coming? Now we'll be more dependent on foreign oil.

Suspicions in some quarters that the administration was being deliberately lax in its response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in order to pursue a larger, anti-domestic energy agenda were met with derision. But if not deliberate, the effect is the same as the administration prepares to shut down our search for new oil.

President Obama on Thursday announced a suspension of offshore drilling in the Arctic until the causes and solutions to the Gulf spill are found. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said in a report delivered to the White House on Thursday that he will not consider applications for permits to drill in the Arctic until 2011. Shell Oil was poised to begin exploratory drilling this summer on leases as far as 140 miles offshore.

The irony here is that it's been the reluctance of Congress and the White House to allow more onshore development of our vast untapped oil and natural gas energy reserves that has forced oil companies such as Shell and British Petroleum to go farther and farther offshore to drill deeper and deeper in riskier waters.

"I am frustrated that this decision by the Obama administration to halt offshore development for a year will cause more delays and higher costs for domestic oil and gas production to meet the nation's energy needs," Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, said in a statement. As with nuclear power, domestic oil exploration will now be consigned to the "study forever, develop never" category.

Let's see, any evidence of sabotage would be 5000 feet below the sea. The environmental damage would shut down offshore drilling for years. It strengthens the moslem world. There's almost no chance that the democrats would be caught at it.

I don't think the current regime was lax. I think they sabotaged the rig intentionally.

How many gulf oil drilling rigs have blown up? I don't remember a single one.

What else do we expect from a bunch of socialist bent on destroying our capitalist free market economy. The socialists wants to steal our money through trillions of dollars in taxes for this totally inefficient “green energy”. It is all about the money, the socialist want to destroy capitalism so they can have all the money, control our lives, and stay in power for ever. As usual they are going to fail miserably. We are going to crush them starting this November elections.

"Who could've seen that coming?"

Soros.

Obama just paid Soros back by stopping Oil Production the Gulf.

Adding value to Soros' Petrobas holdings.

Pertobas only operates 9 platforms in the Gulf.

They are huge off South America and Cuba.

There’s a much simpler explanation than sabotage. BP failed to insert a concrete safety plug before removing the original mud, because they were in a hurry to move the rig to a new site (half million dollars a day or something). The onsite engineers were opposed to the shortcut and eleven paid with their lives.

Yeah...we'll buy from Venezuela, Russia, China and a host of other nations that - by virtue of simply being non-American - have such superior safety and environmental standards for drilling. </sarcasm>

Even if Obama's minions did not sabotage the rig (and they probably did), it is obvious that they have interfered with the recovery. After the process of stopping the leak was dragged out long enough, it was possible for Government and grant-seeking academic "scientists" to claim that the spill had exceeded that from the Exxon Valdez.

Of course, the EPA previously stopped the use of dispersants because the spill needed to look as bad as possible. And the failure of the "dome" is suspicious. The "dome" fix arrived too soon.

Given that Obama has his foot on BP's neck, it is not surprising that any fixes will be according to Obama's schedule. By dragging it out, Obama was able to create a diversion from his unpopular actions (e.g., health care "reform") and have an excuse to shut down oil exploration in the Gulf and in Alaska. Now that Obama has announced that he will fix the problem, BP will be allowed to go ahead.

This will be a dream come true for the Algores of this land, European gasoline prices in America as like $11 per gallon.

It will be the death of the suburbs, tourism, independent travel and the American way. We will be forced into public travel, public housing, public medicine, and public rest rooms. The only way to get away form this is to become a government, party or union official.

Thanks Kaslin. It's just math -- Alaska only gets three votes in Congress. That'll change when the jackoffs in the Party of Treason give polar bears aned caribou the vote.

President Obama on Thursday announced a suspension of offshore drilling in the Arctic until the causes and solutions to the Gulf spill are found.

More oil for Putin. Three years from now when a Republican President opens the Arctic back up, those prime drilling sites will have Russian platforms sitting atop them.
