A GP who begged hospital doctors to test his sick wife for cancer today criticised their 'incompetence' after she later died of the disease.
Dr Uday Pathak, 62, urged medics to carry out a full body scan on his wife, Pradnya, 54, who he suspected was suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma.
But they delayed carrying out the test for seven months - when a scan finally revealed Dr Pathak had been correct all along.

He could have flown to the US, paid $1300 and had the scan and results done in a day
Don’t they also do these in India?
not surprised
He’d already spent that 1300 dollars on taxes (VAT in this case) for the NHS.
That’s the problem with lousy socialist healthcare. Even if you don’t use it you still have to pay for it.
I’ve heard there’s a trend to go to places like India for superior health care that’s affordable. A man I know insists you can fly to India or Morocco, places like that, and get all this work done - including travel and accommodations at the destination - for considerably less than in the US.
The first comment on the site is telling. And yes, I agree, they could have had it all done in one day.
My sister has a thyroid problem and was recently referred to Memorial Sloane Kettering. She went there, and naturally, I called later in the day to know what they’d said. She rhapsodized first about the parking. I laughed and said, “You go to a world-class facility and the thing you think to comment on is the parking?” She laughed too and said that MSK is unlike anything she has ever seen, that I should already know that all our facilities are great, which is why she thought of the parking, but then she told me what a great experience it was, how they were ready for her, let her see her dr. about 20 mts. before her scheduled time, that checking in went so quick, that there was classical music and flowers and places for the ill to lie down and so on. All this, in addition to high science and technology, exists for us in our capitalistic system. It’s a beautiful thing.
When it is your life, you go pay out of pocket.
A GP didn’t have (or couldn’t get) $1300 (estimated) more to spend on her life? Not from any family or any community source? Not buying it. The scan would cost less than the price of two plane tickets to India and way less than a wedding. They advertise them all the time here, on the radio. There are clinics all over town that do them here.
The system is engineered to minimize costs by letting people die rather than receive treatment whenever possible.
They already have your money. They don't have to do anything for you.
Under the evil "Fee for Service" system, they only get paid if they do something for you. That's why they don't like it.
Let’s just hope medical tourism in Central America (Costa Rica? Panama?) is there when Americans on rationed obamacare are put in this situation.
Dear Leader will have us “take a pill” at least.
Coming soon to a hospital near you...
I think someone should look into the possibility of setting up for-fee hospitals and diagnostic clinics on Indian reservations in this country. We’re going to need something to fall back on.
Pretty good idea. Haver some fun at the casino, buy couple of cartons of tax free cigarettes then see the doctor, hee hee.
In a single payer system, it’s illegal to provide services outside of the network.
Anyone know if this little nugget is present in OUR new healthcare control bill?
She couldn’t get it when she needed it and when she got it it was too late and a waste of time and money. Typical government.
sad story
This should happen only to the enemies of the USA....all registered Democrats!
I wish I could explain it, maybe eternal hope? My SIL was suffering greatly from the chemo for melanoma and was literally starving to death. There was one pill that relieved her so she could eat and it cost $500 per pill and her insurance only allowed her 2 per month.
Now they are not poor by any means, in fact, they are close to what I’d call wealthy, do you think that they forked over any money to buy additional pills for relief? NO?!?!
I’ve never understood that.
The NHS system worked!
The intended outcomes for Americans as planned by Obama, Pelosi, Reid et al. The Obama cure for Social Security cuts. Holocaust II!
