I lived in the area once upon a time and can say that I never went out - even for a pack of smokes - without being armed. And things have deteriorated significantly since then...

Your right something doesn’t sound right. Why is a 16 year old out at 2A.M.? Nothing good comes to you after midnight.
Even if it is determined the crime was based on race, Seattle police will come up with a term (such as “wilding”) so as to not have it classified as a hate crime. I know of what I speak. Remember the Central Park Jogger? She was white; perpetrators were all black or Hispanic — the crime “Wilding”. It was never classified as a hate crime.

Yes, it does rather sound like a made up story, yet the injuries were quite real, presumably. They’ve been having some racial conflicts in that area, so I can’t dismiss it out of hand.
I would also like to point out that if the situation were reversed the victim’s word would be sacrosanct, at least until a few lives were ruined, or nearly ruined.
IE: Tawana Brawley, Duke University, etc.

It's been quite a few years, but I'm absolutely certain of where I was on every Tuesday night at 2AM when I was 16. And it wasn't walking home from a birthday party at a friend's house and giving strangers a light.
Ya think maybe the teen intended to rob the “gentlemen” but they grabbed his gun and turned the tables on him.
Seattle is nowhere near as nice as the travelogues say.
