Bill would ban carrying unloaded guns publicly(CA)

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Democrats on Tuesday pushed through a fiercely contested gun-control measure that would ban Californians from carrying unloaded weapons in public.

The “open carry” measure, which passed without a vote to spare, 41-25, now goes to the Senate, where its fate is uncertain. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has yet to take a position.

“With rights come responsibilities,” said Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña, D-San Diego, who is the author of Assembly Bill 1934. “Carrying a gun simply because you can is not responsible ownership.”

The measure failed to attract support from Republicans, who argued that it was tantamount to an attack on law-abiding citizens, it would violate Second Amendment rights to gun possession, and that there have never been any criminal problems associated with open-carry advocates.

“This is a backhanded, even acute way, of implementing gun control,” said Assemblyman Jim Nielsen, R-Biggs. “I assure you that criminals don’t worry about this. They have the guns, and they know how to conceal them, how to use them.”

ban Californians from carrying unloaded weapons in public.

This is good. Carrying an unloaded gun is about as useful as carrying a rock.

"See, that is a miss-nomer! It stands for Excellent Texas Marine!"

Okay, I'll give you that one. I still think you're snowing mean and it means Ex Texas Marine, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

However, what would your company Gunny have done to you if you had called a magazine a clip? He would have smacked you upside the head!! : )

"Really? John Murtha, anyone?"

We pulled his Marine card back in 2005 after the "Haditha Marines" incident. We just pretend he was never in the Corps or Corpse in Obamaspeak... : )

>Oh, and a real conservative Governor!

Sorry man, I live in New Mexico... and I doubt running on a platform of “Calling up the National Guard to jealously and violently protect our border” would go over too well with the majority of the people, even in Texas, as the Average American seems to have “no balls” when it comes to bloodshed.
;)

What the...!?!? You think Gunny’s need a “reason” to smack you upside the head?!?! That’s the NEW Corps! LOL! :-)

And although I am no longer an active Marine, I will never be an EX-Marine! You can tell by the bumper stickers on my vehicles, the plaques on my walls, my desk name plaque made in the Philippines with the Marine Corps War Memorial atop and the “Marine Veteran” cap which I wear most days! Semper Fi!

“...Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña, D-San Diego...”

Saldaña....Saldaña....Hmmm...maybe someone should be investigating her immigration status...maybe look into some possible ties to La Raza, MeCHA, other possible subversive racist groups. Start following the money trail on her...

I mean, fair’s fair, right...?

Sadly, you are correct! However, do you think the liberals will line up to have picnics near the battle fields during the next Civil War as the northerners did during the first? I mean, do they really think that the majority of Americans are on their side?

I hope and pray that it does not come to bloodshed; however, the current administration certainly seems to want a physical fight!

"my desk name plaque made in the Philippines with the Marine Corps War Memorial atop"

The one with the red felt area where you can put your metal rank insignia in? That seems like standard issue for every Marine who ever went to Subic Bay. Those Phillipinos make some great woodworking stuff....

Second the motion. And nominate Ted Kulongoski.

“The one with the red felt area where you can put your metal rank insignia in?”

That’s the one! And I also got a family name plaque with two name boards attached via chains. One board with mine and my wife’s names and the other with my first daughter’s name! Since then, I have had three more daughters, but I have yet to find a wood shop that can remotely duplicate the work which was originally done in the Philippines! Sad!

True, but it is a good vacation spot...

Some of us don't vacation in states where we can't defend ourselves. Unless I'm alone.

I have a good story about that. I got one of those when I was in the Phillipines after my oldest was born. The next time I went on float, my wife was pregnant with our second. This is back when people didn't get utlrasounds left and right so we didn't know what the sex of the child was going to be. We decided on names for either a boy or a girl and when I got to the Phillipines, I had one made for each name.

“The next time I went on float,...”

Well I never made it back to Subic Bay, I made it as close as Okinawa (with family in tow), but never got back to the Philippines. Besides, they had shuttered Subic Bay as a US base by then; heck, our ships only stopped for fuel and R&R.

And I didn’t know that many sailors, except the docs and corpsmen! LOL!

“With rights come responsibilities,” said Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña, D-San Diego, who is the author of Assembly Bill 1934. “Carrying a gun simply because you can is not responsible ownership.”

So by that line of reasoning, we should make flag burning illegal too? Freedom of speech is a right, is it not? In California, the legislature can make the constitutional "right" of free speech illegal?!! Because by their reasoning the speaker spoke in an irresponsible manner?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Oscar... Elected representatives should take civics 101.
