(RTTNews) - The United Nations demanded of Israel Wednesday the immediate lifting of its crippling blockade of the Gaza Strip following the deadly raid by its commandos on a Gaza-bound multi-national humanitarian aid flotilla.
The crux of the problem behind Monday's stand-off was the long-running, crippling Israeli siege of the Hamas-ruled Palestinian coastal enclave, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters in New York, describing it (the blockade) as "counter-productive, unsustainable and wrong."
He called on Israeli authorities to provide a "full and detailed account" of the commando raid on six ships in the Mediterranean Sea's international waters which tried to break the Gaza siege to deliver some 10,000 tonnes of supplies to people.
Calling on all concerned parties to act with a sense of care and responsibility, and in accordance with provisions of international law, Ban said everything must be done to avoid provocations and to prevent another such incident.
Ban was speaking to reporters soon later Wednesday after his return from visiting Brazil, Malawi and Uganda.
Israeli commandos Monday boarded one of the six aid ships in a pre-dawn raid, killing more than nine persons, including four Turks, and injuring over 30 others. Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists were arrested.
Earlier Wednesday, the Geneva-based U.N. Human Rights Council decided to send an independent fact-finding mission to investigate Israel's attack.
The decision was included in a resolution the council passed. Besides condemning the "outrageous attack" by Israel, it asked the Jewish nation to ensure the unimpeded provision of humanitarian assistance, including food, fuel and medical treatment to inmates of the Gaza Strip.
The resolution, proposed by Palestine, Pakistan and the Sudan representing Arab and Islamic countries, was passed by a vote of 32 in favor and three--U.S.A., Italy and the Netherlands--against, with nine abstaining.
Doesn’t the US have VETO power?
What’s Hebrew for “Rolling Donut?”
The U.N. is “counterproductive.”
F the U.N.
Only on the UN Security Council I think.
The UN is precursory to the anti-christ’s one world government....
Bottom Line:
The UN is EVIL INCARNATE
Phukem!
with the ‘right leadership’ and a strong properly led military the USA is the best hope of this planet
A UN resolution is like a show-of-hands at a lunatic asylum.
Dick Morris: “If the Muslims laid down their arms, there’d be no more conflict with Israel. If Israel lays down its arms, there’ll be no more Israel.”
Sieze the land, raze the building, kick the UN to Geneva.
I think that situation is past.....its all downhill from here.
Do you think we would use it under this muslim administration?
I saw Morris say that. It's probably not original to him, but it is brilliantly accurate.
no way ! good things can , and will , still happen
yeah...all loaded up with puppy dogs and rainbows

Where as the constant lobbing of rockets over the border is 'productive, sustainable and right'?
"F the U.N."
Gets my vote as post of the day.
The Gaza cleansing had consequences. Who knew!
Ban Ki-moon speaks with a forked tongue. Israel has been delivering needed supplies to Gaza, has a system for providing more, and has a system for flotilla ships to deliver supplies without contraband and terrorists on board.
We are getting a one-sided, warped, and twisted picture of what is going on from the heavily biased press and Jew hating nations. This whole event has been a set up from the beginning to ambush Israel, IMO.
I demand the UN play in traffic immediately.
