Total nonfarm payroll employment grew by 431,000 in May, reflecting the hiring of 411,000 temporary employees to work on Census 2010, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Private-sector employment changed little (+41,000). Manufacturing, temporary help ser- vices, and mining added jobs, while construction employment declined. The unemployment rate edged down to 9.7 percent.

“More smoke and mirrors. All the average moronic American will see is the 9.7% unem rate which the MSM will be happy to report. And thats ALL they will report.”
Precisely. This, combined with the unending unemployment insurance is to keep the populace form seeing the big picture. I not the UE benefits were only extended to the elections, that way if the libsget voted out of office, the problem will be dumped into the lap of the incoming Congress.
It’s sick that people won’t pay more attention. We’re in the destabilization phase up to our chests, and next (According to Griffen) comes the Crisis phase. It’s sad really. We’ve gotta prepare ourselves, no one else can.
And unexpected!
Futures are already down 186 on this news. Imagine how bad it would be if they didn’t have the census to boost the May numbers?
I can’t imagine that the average American will be impressed with the official unemployment rate....
More people are actively searching for nonexistent jobs, first-time unemployment claims are continuing unabated and the hundreds of thousands of census workers know their jobs are temporary.
Very serious! Drudge has the siren up!
Damn, we need more stimulus, how else are we gonna get out of our unemployment problem? Not to worry, we are all have health insurance.
Can’t wait to see the numbers when they’re laid off.
I bet a lot of the ‘20K’ people that were hired were summer help, and temps for vaca coverage etc.
“More people are actively searching for nonexistent jobs”
Sadly, I read an article that described this as hopeful, becaus eit meant that more people moved from the U6 over to whatever they use now, because they started looking for more jobs, so even though they make the unemployment numbers go higher, they (according to the writer), show that the situation isn’t so bleak.
I’ve never heard such nonsense in my life.
The census is scheduled to start laying off these temporary census workers by the end of July. My prediction is that democrats with the help of the MSM are going to start a drumbeat about census turnout still being to low. Then they will approve "emergency" funding to keep these census temps sitting on the federal payroll until after the November elections.
Yes, think Hershey Park, Busch Gardens, life guards, etc....
It’s called political SPIN.
Putting lipstick on a pig.
Reminds me of a Groucho line. “If you look at it, it’s a barn, if you smell it, it’s a stable.”
I’m perplexed. Biden said the economic stimulus is working wonderfully.
How can this be ????

That is why all must cooperate with the census. Just don’t give them any information they do not need like how much money you make. Besides the feds already know that anyway (the IRS, remember?)
More job losses coming in Gulf Coast over the next six months. Unemployment could easily exceed 10 percent by Nov 2.
Every government “job” created is actually a negative on the real economy.
I thought I heard one analyst say there would 750,000 jobs created. Not even close.
The other 41,000 were people trailing behind census workers with carts who sold donuts, coffee and hot dogs.
As I posted yesterday : 41K private sector jobs per month at ~ 147 billion $ borrowed (4.9 billion borrowed per day.) "If you take an average across a 30 day month that's 147 billion $ debt for the 55K jobs (using this peak number in his favor) or 2.6 Million dollars per private sector job created." #10
More than 20,000 people in the workforce DIE each month and must be replaced.
To have the very lowest caliber president imaginable at this time is a travesty.
Reminds me of a Groucho line. If you look at it, its a barn, if you smell it, its a stable.
Made me smile.
