Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), top Republican on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released documents Thursday night showing the Coast Guard recorded on April 21 -- less than 24 hours after the Deepwater Horizon explosion -- the magnitude of the oil leak disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
“Potential environmental threat is 700,000 gallons of diesel on board the Deepwater Horizon and estimated potential of 8,000 barrels per day of crude oil, if the well were to completely blowout,” the Coast Guard reported in a log of events from the immediate aftermath of the April 20 explosion -- shedding new information on the first days of the disaster.
“These documents raise new questions about whether the White House was slow to respond to an incident that was quickly recognized by the Coast Guard as a potentially catastrophic threat to the environment,”

I will say after day two Obama should have known full well the extent of the oil well blowout going by the Coast Guard report.
we must hang this around his neck and not let him push the blame to BP
this is not a political issue... not a political failure...
this was the failure to properly manage a situation completely under 0bama's control
this goes to his competence as an executive... or complete lack thereof
So ... they FINALLY got their stories straight, logs forged and corrected.
And the Obama Walked on the water and claimed the spill be gone .. and it was gone.

They also knew the Saudi Supertanker mop up operation could have been on site the next day using thousands off local barges, tugs, and other support craft for hire.
Obama needs to go.
Congressional tesomony shows that BP requested and recieved only hours before the leak an exemption from federal safety regs for capping the well. This is what lead the the explosion.
Ditto that, 2012 is too damn far away
and that's EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell anyone that will listen. BP is NOT trying to STOP the spill, they're trying to contain it in order to recover their costs

One thing about the Coast Guard - they are massive overachievers. They are a ‘do more with less’ crowd, and they are obsessed with pleasing the political powers that be.
A spill like this would have been on Adm Allen’s radar as it was happening (30 minutes after the USCG knew Horizon was ablaze), and the USCG liasons to Congress, Senate, and the WH would have had their opposite numbers notified within four hours of that - tops.
When Emmanuel and the Cabinet knew is an open question I guess.
Now remember, Bush had truck loads of equipment and supplies on the roads, WAITING for Katrina, just outside the suspected devistation area. Those trucks moved AFTER Katrina made landfall east of Louisiana, to help with the devestation there. NOLAs levees didn't break until hours later. Bush urged Blanco BEFORE Katrina hit to evacuate. He urged Blanco to call in the guard, BEFORE Katrina hit. He urged her to apply for federal help BEFORE Katrina hit, to get the ball rolling ASAP.
Bush toured NOLA 14 days after Katrina.
and 2 years prior to Katrina, the Army Corps of Engineers recommended their levee’s be re-inforced
true... but GWBush was not responsible for dealing with the clean up. that was the responsibility of the mayor, governor, and local leaders.
the year before we had 6 hurricanes come through florida. NOT ONCE did we expect the POTUS to be responsible for the clean up.
it was all a political trap set up to bash GW.
and yes... i believe the dems deliberately kept 20,000 people at the superdome to create the ‘crisis’, while film crews filmed the ‘tragedy’
