Meg Whitman, the billionaire former eBay chief executive who poured tens of millions of her own fortune into her first-time bid for political office, easily won the Republican primary for California governor Tuesday, advancing to face a Democratic icon, former two-term Gov. Jerry Brown.

Meg didn’t start eBay.....it was founded in September, 1995 by a young Iranian-American by the name of Pierre Omidyar.

Eventually, Pierre wanted to back off from the company a bit and he went looking for a CEO to bring onboard. He brought Meg Whitman to eBay from Hasbro, a Massachusetts toy company. Meg initially didn’t want to make the move to California, but she decided to go for it. She amassed a boatload of eBay stock which is the bulk of her $1.4 billion net worth.

As a long time eBay seller, I was unhappy with her management style and non-sensical changes to the web site, and so were vast numbers of other sellers.
Fortunately, some of them were rolled back when sellers went ballistic enmasse. Then there was her $1 billion purchase of Internet phone service Skype, on which eBay eventually had to take a $900 million loss. I could go on an on.

That being said, her successor at eBay, John Donahue....he is even worse.

There was scant support for Steve on this forum. But now that the race is done, others can work for Megabucks, I won’t. The Primaries was the story of “The Little Red Hen” for many candidates, except in this version she doesn’t get to eat the fruits of her labor. There were very few volunteers to do the hard work with little money. I am feeling the same way I did after Barry was elected...okay, conservatives you elected him by your higher ground tactic, you live with him. Hope you’re happy. Screw California and all the other states that backstabbed conservativism. All of you deserve what you get. If any of you didn’t volunteer for a conservative...sit down and shut the hell up! That especially goes for Meg supporters!

“8.5 earthquake. San Francisco. Now.”

Well, I’ll just say I am glad God is in charge of these things and not you.

If Brown wins again, I’ll know for sure that I need to buy lots and lots of zombie repellent if I want to stay here...

From what I know, she is real tight with Van Jones which means there will be plenty environmental money & progressive money flowing her way.

Doubt it.  I think with all the prospective Republican nominees, she was the easiest to beat against Brown.  Van Jones and his Communist bunch aren't going to waste money on Whitman.

“He made his money acting.. she actually made it in business.”

Meaning that you know nothing of Schwarzenegger’s business acumen. Arnold made himself into a millionaire before he even began his acting career. He made his money with a brick laying business, a fitness equipment business, a mail order business, and real estate investments.

I know he was a businessman, and i also know he was married to a member of the Kennedy family and it seems those family ties were a lot stronger than his so-called Republicanism... did you know he had such a strong environmental leaning before he was elected? I didn’t... I do know this is something he and Whitman share and one thing I don’t like about her.

Is that good?

She's nothing more than The Jerkinator in drag.

Californians will decide on tepid liberalism vs. full-throat liberalism.

And if Whitman becomes the next CA governor and is faced with the same legislature as The Jerkinator had, it's going to be more of the same for the next four years.

My Ex Brother In Law did some Real Estate deals with Arnold years ago. Arnold is quite the businessman. Too bad he got infected by the Kennedy clan.

Redistricting has set up a lot of CA dems for life... I don’t see things changing because of that...

Same here...I don't know anyone here who likes him...if he wins it will ONLY be because he is a Democrap...

No. If he wins, it proves that Californian's really don't care if the state stays bankrupt and continues down the slope it finds itself on.  Brown won't rescue California, that's a given.  Whitman might, but it's not a guarantee, since her agenda will be tested with the liberal loons who rule the roost in Sacramento.

What a perfect cartoon!

I saw part of Meg's victory speech tonight. She was SO wooden and full of sound bytes.

I don't either.  In fact, California won't be able to reverse course even with their own version of Chris Christie governing the state.  He or she might be able to make waves in the press but he or she will have their agenda tested by all the liberals in the legislature.

I don’t recall his environmentalism per se but I knew that he was a liberal Republican before he was elected governor. The group that was backing him intended to displace conservatives who dominated the CA GOP. This New Majority crowd were conservative only with regard to finances and had no use for other issues important to grassroots conservatives, such as illegal immigration. I had no illusions about Arnold and didn’t support him. Whitman is more of the same. If all you want is someone who will balance the books of the welfare state then she’s who you want. Don’t expect anything if you care about social conservatism, and don’t believe her BS about doing something about illegals because she won’t.

I don’t think the Kennedy’s had to work hard to infect Arnold. I doubt that his marriage changed his views. He just did what liberal Republicans have been doing for 30 years now. They mask their views behind a lot of conservative sounding rhetoric. It’s designed to fool people. Dubya was a classic example of a politician doing this.

What good is being on the ballot if you can’t win?

If a conservative has less votes than 2 democrats, he wasn’t going to win any way.

I always thought Arnold was a Fiscal Conservative and a Social Liberal. As soon as the first Reform Propositions he put on the Ballot failed, he just gave up and became a Democrat in RINO clothing.

He started going on about the Will of the People, when it was actually the Money of the Unions that sank those Propositions.

California is a lost cause.

Everyone know it's true. As Attorney General, he hasn't taken the Rose Bird approach.

As mayor of Oakland, he famously supported the Oakland Military Institute. He won the ire of former allies by being corporation-friendly- he was always seeking to give deals to corporations to locate in Oakland. He allied himself with police and developers. He attacked Gray Davis on conservative radio shows. Check out this quote from Wikpedia: As Mayor of Oakland Brown took on a new centrist ideology. He explained this shift was necessary due to the realities of being a big-city mayor with real problems. He no longer seeks to overturn Prop 13. (Like your buddy Poizner wants to do) In 1992, he had Art Laffer create his tax plan when he ran for president. (All lefties hate Laffer)

What have you proved about your socialist buddy Poizner?
