Politico.com raised a stink Tuesday over the possibility that "birther queen" Orly Taitz may win the GOP primary for secretary of state and put California Republicans in the embarrassing position of having a thoroughly discredited conspiracy theorist on their November ticket. The piece contained little evidence (perhaps because there isn't much) but leaned almost exclusively of the kind of why-not speculation popular in American punditry. Here's an excerpt:

I don't consider 372,490 votes (25.7%) to be “fringe”. The Dems will not be able to tip toe past Obama’s eligibility in November.
The judicial system has become very flawed to even imagine that citizens have no standing for these sort of lawsuits. We are supposedly founded on the Principle of "Redress of Grievances", and that was a cornerstone issue that led to the Revolutionary War.
Well, I am not sure if they mean her or the theory itself but littly bammy spending about two million bucks (so far) hiding the real BC makes me believe I will not learn much by clicking on the link.
Orly may have been born in Russia , but she still has that American fighting spirit. Go for it Orly “ NO surrender No retreat”
Thank you.

So?....What is the percent of voters that vote in any primary election? In my state it is often less than 10%.
What those 372,490 votes mean is that there are a **lot** of people who did not choose to vote who feel the same.
I wonder how many of those votes came from Democrats seeking to discredit the GOP.
While Taitz was handily beaten, 25% is not what I would call “fringe” either. I’m not sure how that will impact the November election with respects to Obozo, though. He’s not on the ballot.
I agree. It isn't “fringe”.
25% is significant and the Democrats would be foolish to dismiss Obama’s eligibility as an issue. Likely there were many who voted for Orly's opponent(s) who have questions about Obama’s natural born status but voted against Orly for reasons utterly unrelated to Obama’s eligibility.
Michelle Obama is a birther queen?
I’m still unclear on how that impacts the 2010 election. I have little hope that the birth certificate issue is going to make any difference. However, the WH’s attempts to buy off politicians in order to get them to drop out of races? That might have some teeth. In order to take that where it needs to go, though, we need a major GOP victory in the house and senate in November.
