Former Congressman Goode will endorse Republican nominee

Former GOP congressman Virgil H. Goode Jr. says he will endorse Republican nominee Robert Hurt in the race against U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Ivy.
Goode, a lawyer from Rocky Mount who represented the 5th District in Congress for six terms, lost his seat to Perriello in 2008 by a margin of only 727 votes.
Yes, I plan to support the nominee, Goode said today. I think he has a very good chance of beating Tom Perriello.
Hurt, a state lawmaker from Chatham, beat out six other Republicans to win his partys nomination against Perriello on Tuesday. Hurt carried the 5th District - which extends from the Charlottesville region down to Southside - with a decisive 48 percent of the vote.
Goode declined to endorse any of the GOP candidates during the primary, though he spoke highly of all of them and appeared at fundraising events for Hurt, Albemarle County Supervisor Kenneth C. Boyd and others.
Hurt has a good shot of defeating Perriello, Goode said, because many of the voters who turned out in 2008 to support Barack Obama might not turn out at the same level for this race.
I dont think thatll be there for him in 2010, Goode said. That was a big factor in his victory.
Did you see this?
Goode could of “hurt” Hurt!
I haven’t seen it before, but it’s good news. I don’t think that Robert Hurt is as bad as some think he is. It takes more than one bad vote to qualify as a RINO.
Hurt so Goode.
Come on baby make it Hurt so Goode.
Sometimes love don’t feel like it should.
Virgil, you make it Hurt so Goode.
Apparently there is a local TEA party candidate in Danville who will attempt to split the vote however.
That’s a bad development. That candidate needs to be ignored. If he’s made filing mistakes, maybe he can be taken off the ballot.
From what I read, this guy Hurt is a RINO. I hope he gets elected just to put Perriello out of office, but that’s the only reason. There were a number of good candidates but the Republican Party always finds a way to screw up things.
Read his Issues page. Seems pretty conservative to me. What is the source of the information leading you to conclude that he’s a RINO?

Hurt voted for the Mark Warner tax increase. He’s one of the few remaining Republicans who survived that. Still, the rest of his record is pretty solid.
As for Clark’s challenge? I don’t see how the Tea Parties can seriously get behind a man who said I would rather see Tom Perriello for two more years than the wrong conservative there for 20 years,

Hurt was the only one of seven candidates to get traction district-wide. If Clark gains a following, he’ll get his wish for two more years (at least) for Perriello.
Good(e) news for Hurt.
God bless Goode. Thank you for the info, FRiend.
