Conservative blogger Pamela Geller says she has been threatened with discontinuation of her online payment account by PayPal, the most widely used service of its kind.

On her popular Web site, Atlas Shrugs, Geller posted the text of an e-mail notice she received Saturday morning from PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy Department.

"[A]fter a recent review of your account, it has been determined that you are currently in violation of PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy," the PayPal e-mail said. "Under the Acceptable Use Policy, PayPal may not be used to send or receive payments for items that promote hate, violence, racial intolerance or the financial exploitation of a crime."

PayPal has already dumped ALL liberals sites for violating their "acceptable use policy", right?

I didn't think so.

Why bother fighting Paypal? Who needs these scumbags? Why enrich those who support policies that are extremely diverse from your own?

dropped pay pal a while back, and bought a pre paid visa card from wal mart cost $3.00 to load up to 500.00 on it, and can be re loaded for a small fee any time.. figured a pre paid one would not mess up a regular one in case something went awry like some one stealing my account number, they could only get what I had in there. and it is usually not too much..I add to it when I am going to purchse something

Just clicked on the PayPal link on her site and it took me to the payment section. Did not carry through with the payment so can’t be sure if it would go through.

Maybe someone else wants to part with $5 to see if it works all the way through.

Same thing here, keeps things nice and neat. I know several folks who have online stores who despise Paypal, not sure why (it’s not over this specific issue).

Spot on. Don’t give them anything more than you can afford to lose. I eliminated Paypal years ago when they kept pushing for direct link to my checking account or other charge accounts.

I don’t understand why anyone needs Paypal. If you have a charge account... use it... why go through a third party?

Paypal is awkward to work with, and takes a relatively large fee for transactions. They’ve never screwed up my account, though, and I’ve had it for over five years.

I believe this is the reason a woman I know stopped using it for her business.

I stopped because it was a pain in the butt to figure out beyond the most basic transaction.

Paypal is the most common way to pay for things on eBay. You do NOT want to give your CC to a seller on eBay. That’s probably where they get the majority of their business.

I use paypal for some craigslist purchases... let them know in advance I will not do cash. just send the payment from my phone, and they verify from their phone. I could just conceal carry, but I live in california and I’m not a senator. No longer use it for anything else though.

That's what I meant when I said it was awkward to work with. PITA, but my daughter collects old dolls, and eBay is the only place to buy some of them for a reasonable price, so I keep the account strictly for eBay purchases for her.

Online retailers claim in a federal class action that PayPal closed their accounts and held onto their money for six months, offering only the vague and unfounded excuse of suspicious account activity.

Lead plaintiff Moises Zepeda says he logged onto his PayPal account, which he uses for his business selling gift cards through eBay, and found a notification telling him his access had been limited.

In March 2010, Paypal froze donations to Cryptome, seizing over $5300 of in-transit donations. PayPal refused to inform Cryptome of the reason for this action, claiming that to disclose why the donations had been confiscated would violate Cryptome’s own privacy. A week later, PayPal offered an apology, which was rejected by Cryptome founder John Young as “insulting and unacceptable”.

In March 2004, PayPal and New York state’s Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer, came to an agreement to require PayPal to disclose clients’ rights and liabilities more accurately and to pay $150,000 to the state of New York for penalties and the costs of the investigation.

eBay...

It allows folks to sell on ebay and receive money quickly without having to set up a credit card system. And even with the credit card system it can take several days to actually get your money.

Paypal payments are available as soon as you customer hits the payment button.

Further The majority of folks on Ebay take Paypal and many ONLY take Paypal.

Another nice bit is a Paypal Debit Card gets you a 1% Cash Back on just about every purchase you make. (people who have the older Debit accounts like me get 1.5% Cashback)

So Paypal does have its positive side but they are a bear to deal with if you run afoul of any of their policies.

bought a pre paid visa card from wal mart

That's interesting. What company produces the card? Any problems using it?

You can get banned from the eBay message boards for the smallest “offense” against political correctness, while liberals have the run of the field. The standard moderator on ebay is a lesbian from Palo Alto.

I will NEVER use ebay/paypal again. Doing so is enabling the worst of the worst. Somewhere along the line, conservatives have to fight the worst offenders, and ebay is one.

Paypal has its good side, but like many webcentered businesses they're a pushover for whatever political activists that have the upper hand. They should be a bit careful, though - they are used by quite a few folks that might earn them more than just a bit of lost business.

Here's a couple of the less harmful examples. There's a gazillion like them and worse. One of these guys had some fifteen minutes of internet fame as "The Skunk".
