Obama Begins "Lifestyle Health Modification" Program, Mandating Behavioural Changes in US Society
Zero Hedge ^ | 6-13-10 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 06/13/2010 6:15:05 PM PDT by kirbyu

Last week, with little fanfare, among the ever deteriorating oil spill crisis, the White House quietly noted the issuance of an executive order "Establishing the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council", in which the president, citing the “authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America” is now actively engaging in "lifestyle behavior modification" for American citizens that do not exhibit "healthy behavior." At least initially, the 8 main verticals of focus will include: smoking cessation; proper nutrition; appropriate exercise

He must enjoy meddling almost as much as he does partying and golfing.

Oh, and don't forget smoking, drinking and cheeseburgers!!!

I suppose it would be silly to ask where in the Constitution the federal government is granted this power?

OK, since you say that "Nowhere" is your answer to MY question, I'll take that as meaning you do NOT think the Constitution authorizes fedgov regulation of mental health.

So why the apologia for the New Freedom Mental Health Initiative (NFMHI) in post #112 ?

Isn't the NFMHI contrary to the original meaning of the Constitution?

Here is the link to the actual executive order (link given in the article).

http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/executive-order-establishing-national-prevention-health-promotion-and-public-health

People really need to read it, it is MUCH WORSE, than anyone can imagine — this panel will have the power to SET NATIONAL STRATEGY.

“Sec. 5. National Prevention and Health Promotion Strategy. Not later than March 23, 2011, the Chair, in consultation with the Council, shall develop and make public a national prevention, health promotion, and public health strategy (national strategy), and shall review and revise it periodically. The national strategy shall:

(a) set specific goals and objectives for improving the health of the United States through federally supported prevention, health promotion, and public health programs, consistent with ongoing goal setting efforts conducted by specific agencies;

(b) establish specific and measurable actions and timelines to carry out the strategy, and determine accountability for meeting those timelines, within and across Federal departments and agencies; and

(c) make recommendations to improve Federal efforts relating to prevention, health promotion, public health, and integrative health-care practices to ensure that Federal efforts are consistent with available standards and evidence.”

Death panels, here they come — if you don’t follow the strategy, you’ll go to the end of the line, or will be denied medical care, just like “NICE” in the UK.

Republicans need to publicize this and make a long list of things that need to be repealed and reversed.

- “So what cha in for bro? “

+ “Oh man, I got busted for drinking a six pack over a 3 day weekend”

- “Wow man, nobody gets drunk on a six pack of beer like that?”

+ “No man, it was a six pack of Coke.”

I am a bit disgusted with what I have become, because if Obama suffered a massive stroke tomorrow... I would celebrate.

None of which addresses my point. If you don't think the Constitution authorizes fedgov regulation of mental health, then it makes no sense to write what you did in #112, and ask if I hated Pres. Bush.

Isn't this a bit over the top?

(Now if you said Barack was at risk for ovarian cancer...)

Cheers!

The repetitive question is irrelevant .. no
matter how many times it’s asked.

I can add nothing further if, for some reason,
there’s a refusal to see or accept the reality
of the existence of EO’s through the decades.

Interestingly, Obama’s been an advocate for VAWA, another rights-eroding law. Many fairly innocent men have been unfairly thrown in jail based on the hyper vigilant enforcement of this vague law.

Also, you might want to have a heads up too on “mental and behavioral health”, since that’s a popular way of disposing and discrediting opponents from dictators. Just ask Fidel Castro...

If they're concerned for the public health, does that mean they're going to ban the democrat party?

Let’em meet. It’s not like these folks have anything better to do:

The Surgeon General shall serve as the Chair of the Council, which shall be composed of:

(1) the Secretary of Agriculture;
(2) the Secretary of Labor;
(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services;
(4) the Secretary of Transportation;
(5) the Secretary of Education;
(6) the Secretary of Homeland Security;
(7) the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency;
(8) the Chair of the Federal Trade Commission;
(9) the Director of National Drug Control Policy;
(10) the Assistant to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council;
(11) the Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Indian Affairs;
(12) the Chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service; and
(13) the head of any other executive department or agency that the Chair may, from time to time, determine is appropriate.

The repetitive question is irrelevant .. no matter how many times it's asked.

A question on the constitutionality of a fedgov policy is not irrelevant on FR.

I can add nothing further if, for some reason, there's a refusal to see or accept the reality of the existence of EO's through the decades.

EO's have nothing to do with why you wrote an apologia for the New Freedom Mental Health Initiative in post #112. I thought you said fedgov regulation of mental health was unconstitutional.

I’ve called the White House Comment Line several times to tell them to tell Obama to read the Constitution, to follow it and to stop lying. Shameless grifter.
